Alice Kamdon was honestly rather bored. It was inly fifteen minutes into class and they had already seen about a half a dozen stories of grossly underweight girls who refused to eat. Now Alice wasn't to thrilled about that small image in her head. While doodling on her notebook Alice looked up to find a lovely picture depicting brain damage caused by eating disorders.
"Hey Mia what time did you say this period ended?" Alice whispered into her friends ear.
"I didn't," Mia snapped.
Alice was rather taken aback at her normally calm and quiet friend's reaction. Alice decided right then and there to back off the rest of the period. Now Alice wasn't all to excited for Health class either since the topic this year was all about mental health and some of its side affects.
Alice wasn't all to sure about her own mental health since some things she has done. At least she wasn't Jack Carver though. Alice could not believe that he even could show his face here again. After last year she couldn't believe that they let him back in.
Nickolace Smith moved in his creaky chair which sounded loud in the, otherwise quiet audience. He was as white as a ghost and hidden in his sweatshirt, ducking his head to hide his face. His hands were pulled over his hands, which Alice realized were shaking. That was a rather odd reaction wasn't it? But then again Nickolace Smith was a rather odd boy. Alice pulled back her head to look at her failed drawing at a horse which more closely resembled a giraffe with legs. She huffed, art was never her strong point.
"Miss Kamdon"
"Huh, um, yes sir?" Alice replied with a start.
"What are some of the potential side affects of an eating disorder?"
"Oh well um, weight loss?"
"Very amusing Miss Kamdon, but no."
"Miss Naggiolo can you tell us the potential side affects of an eating disorder?"
Aliced rolled her eyes. Kenna Naggiolo was the grade's teacher's pet. Now Kenna isn't that smart since she was kicked out of AP math and isn't in any other honors or AP classes. So Kenna is the girl that is always volunteering to pass out papers and do other errands for the teacher.
"The potential side effects of an eating disorder are malnutrition, dehydration, wasting away of muscles, paralysis, tearing of esophagus, insomnia, hyperactivity, kidney and liver failure, athritis, loss of menstual cycle, infertility, weakness and fatigue, seziures, and death, just to name a few."
Stunned Mr. Wright said, "Thank you Kenna that was, uh, more than enough."
As Kenna beamed as Bobby Greene coughed "teacher's pet" into his hand. The whole class giggled as Kenna's pride faded.
"Mr. Greene. Office. Now," Mr. Wright spoke in a stern voice just under a yell.
Bobby strolled out of the class with a smirk.
"We cannot STILL have twenty minutes left," Alice said under her breath.
Alice is a smart girl who gets good grades, but she can't stand a boring class just as much as the next person. Mr. Wright had continued his lesson, talking about the brain damage that corresponds with an eating disorder.
"This is nasty," Alice thought, "they say cutting is crazy, but this is revolting."
Alice struggled with her self harm tendencies. Although Alice didn't have a million scars all over her body or cuts down to the bone did not mean that she wasn't in pain. Alice didn't cut deep, niether has she cut alot, but she is still struggling. Alice only ever told one person, Mia. Now Mia and Alice were never the best of friends, but they were close. Alice didn't have best friends. She has been backstabbed and betrayed by quite a few different "best friends" over the years and now can never give that trust to anybody. Alice wasn't sure why she told Mia besides it being just a moment of weakness.
If Alice could do it all over she would have never told Mia, but she dug her grave and now has to lay in it. Alice has friends, but they are a necessary evil in high school. Alice doesn't see her and Mia hugging at graduation or texting in collage. None of Alice's friendships ever last more than a year or two, it's not the way Alice wants it, but it is the way it is. Now that's why Alice wants to slowly drift away from Mia, becuase if they ever have a falling out Mia may tell Alice's secret out of revenge or spite. Just maybe though Mia will shut her mouth if there never is a falling out, or even a single fight.
Alice wants to be alone, she doesn't care about friends or school, what's the point? Now as much as Alice wants to believe that, she can't for she has always done very well in school and she would be a failure if she dropped from honors classes and as much as she tries she can never drift from her friends for long. Sometimes Alice doesn't pay attention and virtually ignores her friends for a day or two, just to see if they would notice her absence, but they never do. Nobody cares for Alice and her biggest mistake was telling Mia that she cuts. Alice doesn't want to tell more than one person, but she would rather it be someone with whom she has a bit more sturdy relationship with. So now if Alice needs to talk she has only Mia because she can only tell Mia.
Health being over Alice heads to her next period. She has a horriable stomach ache, but it aint no ordinary stomach ache. Ever since Alice started cutting again she gets theses stomach aches from her stress. They feel like butterflies in her stomach, but much worse, to the point where they are painful. She gets them right around the time she cuts. When she can physically feels her emotional pain like a big rock in her soul, then her stomach aches start.
After she cuts and relizes what she did Alice is stunned at first then she feels her stomach soar right through the uncomfortable butterflies and into a horriable, gruesome pain that leaves her doubled over on her bed. Alice likes the stomach aches though. Before Alice could not process all her emotions or understand and comprehend her stress levels, but ever since she started getting stomach aches it has all changed. She gets a wave of stomach pain when she is stressed, the worse they are the more stressed she is.
As Alice went around the corner she tried to hide her face by ducking down so her hair swept over like a curtain around her, but it is hard when you have very light colored, thin hair. As Alice tried getting to her next class as quickly as possiable she nearly tripped over Nickolace Smith on the floor holding his bleeding nose.
She looked up to see Jack Carter, or was it? For his eyes weren't that of the young innocent boy she was so familiar with, but that of rage. There was no Jack in those eyes only pure hatred, the kind of hatred that was in him last year during the incident in Shop. The same incident when he took a circular saw to Vincent Cook's pinky finger. The very same incident that sent Jack Carter, the town nutcase, to the loony bin.
That was when those bloodthirsty eyes looked up to meet those of a stunned Alice and she came to the sickening conclusion that he wasn't going to finish off with Nickolace's nose.
