"This shit is crazy...."
"Language, Yoongi," my mother seethed with a tap at the back of my head.
"I know!" Namjoon exclaimed, "you have a younger brother who's Jimin's age! What if he's equally as greasy?"
Jin shot him a glare and patted me on the shoulder. "Ignore Slim Shady," Jin threw a Slim Jim paper Namjoon had dropped earlier back at him and mailed him in the eye, "you should go."
"Jin is absolutely right," my mother smiled and I slowly felt my heart piece itself together after three years. "He really wants to meet you. He went through so much trouble just to get me to you...."
~~~
"Whoa," he gasped, eyes wide as he stared at Yoongi. The sentiment was definitely mutual, all things considered. "I've seen a few pictures on Facebook where I thought you looked like Dad but you look more like your mother than anyone."
Facebook? Yoongi thought with a frown. He'd have to have a little talk with Jungkook about his photography fixation when he returned home.
"I've never actually seen your dad, but....." Yoongi observed JinWoo from closer up, circling the younger to eye him from every angle while JinWoo fidgeted uncomfortably. "I see some similarities between us."
"Would you like to have a seat?" He offered with obvious trepidation- but the slightest excitement bouncing around in his eyes- and gestured to the table he'd previously been seated at.
Yoongi stopped in his original spot, his eyes still narrowed, before nodding and plopping down in the chair offered to him. JinWoo smiled politely and sat across from Yoongi.
"Sorry about asking to meet up on short notice like that, I wasn't sure when would be a good time for you," JinWoo started, clearing his throat and adjusting the napkins on the table, "I just....really wanted to meet you. It gets lonely, being distant from your family in every aspect and....my father told me a little about you but I always figured he was hiding something."
"What exactly did he tell you?" He'd had yet to look up for more than two seconds and Yoongi smirked. "You don't have to be nervous, kid. I'm only three years older, I have friends your age."
JinWoo gave him a doe eyed look that quickly transformed into one of familiarity and obvious respect. "Awesome. I just...my....our grandma is so strict about proper use of the English language and etiquette and I'm nervous so..."
"Why?" Yoongi questioned.
JiWoo's face twisted up in a scowl. "She's trying to force me into the 'family business' as Dad's heir-"
"No," Yoongi stopped him with a small smirk, "I meant, why are you nervous?"
JinWoo's cheeks flushed as he picked at his napkin. "I have older friends from school and clubs I've been in over the past years whom I treat like brothers but we're biological brothers," he gestured to Yoongi, "our family has money but that doesn't entitle me to an emotional shield from being just a little nervous about your reaction to all of this."
Yoongi nodded. The kid was honest, he'd give him that. "All of this being....you...being my brother?"
When he got a nod Yoongi returned it, sipping the cool glass of water placed gently in front of him just moments ago. "How did you get a hold of me? And what did he tell you about me exactly? Just so we can clear the air about my 'origin story.'"
"I have this really smart techy friend who connected me with Irene, like, within seventeen hours of me telling him your name and age. I knew the moment I saw that one picture of you scowling at a birthday party that you were my dad's lost son."
Yoongi didn't think lost was the proper term for what he was, if the story he'd heard from his mother was any indication, but he'd leave that for another time. "So he talked about me?"
JinWoo nodded. "A few times, actually. Nearly my whole life, he'd tell me this lame story about a prince and a 'commoner' falling in love..." JinWoo waved it off when Yoongi's expression stayed passive. "It's stupid though, I won't get into it."
"No, tell me. It might even clear some things up for me." Yoongi stared intently at him, only half kidding when he adds, "in great detail, please."
JinWoo flushed but sighed and continued after a sip of his own water. "So there's this prince...He spends his whole life being a total player, acting up just to piss the queen off and the works. Then in the midst of all this during his twenties he meets this commoner chick, and she's not the most gorgeous by Korea's standards but she definitely stands out to him, and he pulls all this smooth crap to try woo her and get her attention but she's not buying it. Not the first time." He paused and took a bite of one of the bread sticks in the center of the table. "But it doesn't take long to get her to cave and she's hooked. They're seeing each other all the time, she doesn't tell him where she lives but they meet up every night and he's honestly surprised half a year later when he isn't bored of her because his usual maximum is three months per 'maiden.'" he put dramatic airquotes around the last words with an eye roll and Yoongi smirked. "Eventually word gets back to the queen that her prince is being seen with a mystery woman and she thinks it's just one of the prospective princesses she's set him up on blind dates with but she doesn't know he's been ditching them to be with this commoner until it's too late."
"She's pregnant." Yoongi stated more than asked.
JinWoo nodded. "The commoner is to bare a bastard child if they don't marry, and when the queen finds out she forbids the prince from doing something that could tarnish his name any further. She even goes as far as bribing the young commoner woman to abort her unborn child or give it- or him-" he nodded at Yoongi- "away."
JinWoo stopped when the waiter returned with some Korean food Yoongi would have only seen in books his mother had bought him if it weren't for Namjoon and Jin's families cooking their own meals rather than paying cooking staff. "Thank you."
Yoongi bowed slightly to the waiter and muttered his own thanks as JinWoo started digging in.
"So I take it your grandmother has no idea you're meeting me."
"No, she does," he said around a mouthful of bread. "She's like a hawk, she knows just about everything- I wasn't even going to tell her but she addressed it the day before I contacted you."
Strange, Yoongi thought, for some reason I'd think she wouldn't want me anywhere near her precious heir.
All he said was, "that's odd."
JinWoo nodded. " I wanna say it's not but she was never really known for her kind, forgiving heart, in any aspect of her life. But I haven't finished the story and there's an even better twist."
Yoongi couldn't possibly think of any element of the story JinWoo could add that would surprise him unless he told him that HoSan wasn't actually his biological father, but considering the fact that Irene hadn't mentioned anything of that nature the idea seemed nearly impossible. "Please, continue."
JinWoo looked over his shoulder then turned back. "You know the rest, I think, but only on her side?"
Yoongi nods. "No one was there to tell his, so..."
JinWoo smirked. "Well, that's what I'm here for."
"The floor's all yours."
