I knew time was hungry.
How it feed on both joy and suffering.
Those who fear death...Fear time too.
I never thought that it would apply to you but
Your eyes are frozen like the cold winter around us, robbed of their warmth. I was praying that you were alive but you never opened them. With that, I know you are dead and...
I am free.
However, my freedom has come with a terrible price.
You are gone, the person I have grown to love. At 25 years old, the man who was my best friend and family is lost forever to me.
"I will die when I am 25, so please forgive me."It should have been me instead of you.
How can I forgive you or much less myself?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is the 15th summer of my existence but what a different world this is.
Mankind has evolved so much, being able to identify when they will die. Fearing for their lives, cowards kept researching for a way to bypass death.
The first to succeed was a small country that was known for their dictatorship.
Promises of immortality took over the senses of people all over the world. The once hated country became popular and all past sins were forgiven.
Where was the world moral compass?
They never had one in the first place.Mistreating the objects who free them from death, we are owned items called "Links."
The despair hanging over us is dark...
Our future never existed.
All possibilities to escape are vanish, they never were there.
Hope is meaningless. My mind never lingers on such trickery.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The system that booms with loud music calls for a sentence, our deaths.
I have pictured this moment so many times, the eerie silence of everyone and the impending doom of someone, the longer the music is played. Worried faces of links looked on, holding their friends close to them as they trembled slightly.
The music stops and a bright cheerful woman's voice breaks the silence, "Alice, The principal wants to see you."
Chaos breaks out as those who know Alice try to protect her. Rushing towards the door, their bodies piled up in a bid to protect her from the incoming discipline masters. I can still remember the blood and sweat of their bodies, their piercing screams as they shout for Alice to run. Oh how she tried, she had almost made it to freedom too. I can still see her face, the worry lines that decorated her face and the frozen fear etched onto it. Her strawberry colored hair ducking in and out of the crowd till the fated words came out.
"If Alice escapes, I will pick Noil to go instead." One of the discipline masters smugly lifts his eyebrows up as he waves towards a blonde haired girl before grabbing her, ripping the collar of her shirt apart. He pauses as if to reconsider his statement while leering at her.
"AFTER THEM!"
A roaring cry comes from Noil's friends and they launch themselves at Alice's friends, each of them fighting in loyalty to each other. Fists were thrown at each other as the fight for survival went on.
A male charges at Alice and with a firm grip, grabs and pulls her forcefully down with him. They fell as he screamed his apology desperately.
"I want to save my girlfriend!" he shrieks, pain filling his eyes as he breaks into tears, his face overcome with suffering and repulse from his deed.
Falling heavily, they roll towards the discipline masters, only stopping when one stomps on them nastily, disgust written on his face.
"BAMP"
Seeing that Alice was caught, most of her friends gave up. One cried, falling onto the floor at the hopeless situation. No one moved to comfort the person. In many eyes, it was pointless, history will only repeat itself. No use comforting someone who might be gone the next day.
The only one left resisting seemed to be Alice's boyfriend so Noil's friends held him down, one choking him. His face was turning blue as links begged for him to be freed.
"I WILL GO!"
"DON'T KILL HIM!" a sobbing Alice whimpers as she shoves the surrounding links aside, bending over him.
Hugging him, tears streamed down their faces for it will be the last time anyone will see her.
The distance was so close yet far.
Failure to protect someone close to you...surely is horrifying.
Not surprisingly, she never came back.
Her boyfriend quietly welcomed his end, volunteering to take someone else's place.
We are not seen as humans but rather as objects called Links.
We were created solemnly for the people.
Born to be parts of humans or exchanged in death.
Cloned from humans, time is never ours.
We are nothing...
It's sad but I have seen this scene so many times that it doesn't really matter to me anymore.
Death is the only way for us to be freed.
We have to accept it one way or another.
Do you?
