The burning sands,
Once conquered and ruled
By the great pharaohs.
Kings and queens guarded
By the god of the afterlife, Anubis.

A once mighty empire which thrived
Through trade from ships that
Sail swiftly through the Mediterranean
In the North.
Trade from two hooved camels that
Venture through the blazing Sahara
In the East.
Markets in times sold fresh cooked Kofta Kebabs,
Tools, and domesticated animals
Like sheep, chickens and cattle.
Crowds of people flock to the stalls to barter and purchase.

There were many tales and legends told,
It told about the plagues ravaging unwary victims,
It told about destinies ahead of the sands of time,
It told about the sweat and tears that have fallen building the great pyramids.

These ancient stone storytellers are laid to rest,
Left broken and defeated
And are soon to be discovered
from the fiery depths of the kingdom of sand.
