¨GUYS I have to show you something!" Cleo comes crashing into our dorm breathless and terrified. We all looked at her like she was insane.
This was the moment that changed my whole life, but let's backtrack to the first day of Sophomore year.
Everything was perfect I had the boy of my dreams and the greatest friends a girl could ever ask for, and an amazing family that supported me in all of my fine art choices. I never really had problems with anything. Life was a good thing, sophomore year just kept on getting better and better.
¨It's so weird to be back at the same circle table like last year, it brings back so many memories to look back on.¨ says Agustus.
¨I know right?¨ replies Zara enthusiastically.
I see everyone together again, Daniel, Saskia and her boyfriend Caspian, Zara and her boyfriend James, Cleo, and Augustus all bonding and being with each other it felt so good to see us together as one. I sit on the last living seat by my boyfriend Daniel and my friend Zara, who was flirting it up with James. I look at Cleo and Augustus who just sit awkwardly by each other watching the couples talk about their summer trips away from each other. Obviously, they are the only ones that are really single. We have been best friends since the first grade where we were forced to sit at the blue table at lunch together, and we instantly clicked. After that we were all inseparable and there was nothing you could do about it. I even remembered that time in fourth grade where everyone got ¨married¨, on different days of course, who would have their marriage on the same day? Recess was first where the marriage happened and then the reception was lunch.
Daniel and I were pretty much the star-crossed lovers of our group, everyone thought and knew our relationship was perfect. We were the first of the group to get into a relationship and a year and a half after that Caspian was influenced to ask Saskia and then eventually James true feelings towards Zara flew out of their cage... Enough of them though; Daniel and I have been dating for 3 years, the three-year mark was July 4th at 1:17 in the morning; he asked me out in front of everyone at a firework show. I was so thrilled and happy he finally asked me. We have been in love ever since.
"Hey, guys!" Saskia gets our full attention. "Maybe we should have a back to school party on Friday for the new year."
"I don't think that's a good idea." I start. "My dad is the superintendent, ya know?"
"Yeah, but wouldn't it be fun?" Daniel tries to convince me.
"It would be small, some other kids in our grade would be invited." Saskia starts. "I can ask my brother if he can get us some alcohol."
"Fine our dorm room Friday at 8 BUT no alcohol." I point at her.
"But then it's not a real party!" Zara joins in. "How about some vodka and orange juice we can make screwdrivers."
"Fine but only fruity drinks." I cave in.
"Yeah, lit!" Caspian pumps his fists in the air.
"Whatever you do don't tell my dad." I turn my face into my scary, serious face and my tone of voice went cold. But only jokingly of course.
All of my friends freeze and their eyes widen and they point to a person behind me. I turn my body around and it was of course my father.
"Don't tell me what?" my dad insists.
¨Oh hey dad...umm we are going to have a little party at my dorm room for the new school year, is that ok?¨ I say hesitantly; I look at my friends and can see the worries on their faces.
¨Veronica you're 16 now if you want to throw a party, you know the rules. Be safe, No shenanigans¨ my father says.
¨Really thanks dad¨ I get up and hug him, when my dad leaves, we all look at each other in disbelief my father would never let me throw my own party, like never in a million years.
