I was in my chemistry class tapping my mechanical pencil up and down on my books listening to the professor boring the death out of my classmates. Don't get me wrong I love chemistry, because my mother used to teach here in this very room.
The professor noticed I seemed to be out of it and gave me an encouraging smile, but even that could not pull me out of my slump.
_______
My eyes start fluttering shut until a piercing noise fills the school. I sit up straight and stared at my table mate wide eyed, while listening to the loudspeaker knowing all too well who was screaming over the entercom.
"FIRE FIRE!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! I REPEAT NOT A DRILL!" My dad yells over the intercom, someone starts screaming and then before we know it, the whole school was being tortured by flames all around us.
We all run for the exit door, when I exited the building I headed to my class section and waited for everyone to arrive, so I could start marking everyone as present.
People came running breathlessly towards me gasping for air in panic and shock; I can't blame them I felt the same way.
As soon as I see no one else coming out of the school I start doing a roll call. I went down the large list of about 604 kids but I see two of them aren't here. Augustus and Caspian. I start to panic and I start repeating their names.
"AUGUSTUS? CASPIAN?" I yell continuously, Saskia comes up to me tears running down her face.
"I can't find Caspian." She sniffles. "He and Augustus were right behind me and then poof they're both gone."
"Oh no. They're stuck in there, I have to go find someone. Please fill in for me." I shoved the clipboard into her chest and sprint off to find an adult or maybe a firefighter. I race to a firetruck with firefighters circling around it.
"Hey you aren't supposed to be around here it's dangerous!" One of them holds a hand out towards me.
"No you need to listen, two of my best friends are still in there and they need to get out, NOW." I yell and the firefighter puts his hand down.
"Do you have a picture of these two friends." I nod and I quickly whip out my phone and show them my phone background with them standing next to each other.
"I'll go and find them, Richard we need to get in there now." He yells at a younger worker and he nods.
"Thank you so much!" I say and he nods. I turn on my heel and start walking toward my group and see Saskia being comforted by Zara and Cleo. Daniel and James were there to talk to her.
"Saskia, Caspian's going to be alright, so is Augustus." Daniel says as I walk over.
"I talked to the firemen so they can get them out." I say taking the clipboard away from Saskia who marked it with a few of her tears.
We all look at the school in horror not knowing what else there was in place for us this year.
