I could hear her screams. I didn't know what to do. I don't think there was anything I could do. I just watched the empty space that held her just a few minutes ago in horror.
"Grayson, you have to stop him!" I spin around, falling to my knees and begging him. "Please! She's like my sister!"
"I'm sorry, Madeline." He frowns.
"Grayson please!" I beg. Tears fill my eyes.
"I can't." Grayson whispers. "He'll hurt you. I'm protecting you."
"Who cares about me!? I care about her and he's hurting her!" An ear piercing scream is muffled by the door. "Amelia!" I shout.
I jump up, going to run towards the door, but Grayson wraps his arms around my torso. "I'm sorry, Madeline. I can't let you do anything."
"Grayson, please! She's my best friend!"
"I don't care about her, Madeline! I care about you! That's why I won't let him hurt you!" He shouts, spinning me around and grabbing my wrists. "Can't you see that? I will not let anything happen to you by him. Alright?"
Tears stream down my face. "But Grayson, she's all I got left."
"He won't kill her."
"How do you know that?"
"Because he loves her."
"That's not how you express love!"
"Please, Maddy, just calm down."
I fall into his arms, hugging him and sobbing into his shoulder. "I just want to go home."
"I know, Maddy. I can't let you do that, baby girl. I'm so sorry."
