Jason
"See you guys next week, and have a nice night" I said as I was heading out the door.
"Okay Jay, you do the same." Denise, of my coworkers said. The clock on my phone read 7:15p.m, the earliest I've gotten off of work in the last three weeks, maybe with luck I'll be able to have dinner with the others tonight. I hopped into my black convertible and started up the car, but nothing happened, I tried again and it only sputtered.
"Come on start." I said, I turned the key again, and again, and again, but the car wouldn't budge. Now I was pissed off; the car had no signs of it breaking down or dying. Now on a good day it wants to? I slammed my hand on the steering wheel "Are you fucking kidding me?" I shouted, not sure what else to do, I slammed my head on the steering wheel the horn blaring around me. Now not only was I probably going to be late coming home, but this was probably going to be a pain in the ass to get repaired, not to mention coasting a lot of money. Just when things were starting to look good for me, it turns and slaps me in the face.
A loud knocking on my window jarred me from my thoughts, I took my head off the wheel and saw Oliver, my best friend and technician captain, staring at me, worried. I rolled down my window and he stuck his head through the window.
"You okay Jay?" He asked, his green eyes stared back at me through his messy brown bangs.
"Car won't start, just frustrated." I said.
"I could give you a ride home if you want, I ain't got nothin' better to do with my time. Besides, I don't want you sitting out here all night and hearing about you and Sam bitching at each other about it later."
I couldn't help but laugh, "Yah, I need a ride, let me just call a toe truck and Sam first alright?"
Oliver shook his head, "You ain't gotta call a toe, I keep a pair of jumper cables in my trunk just in case."
I nodded and got out of the car, while Oliver went to get his car, I pulled out my phone and dialed Sam's number. I tapped my fingers on my knee while I wait for Sam to pick up the phone, then she answered on the forth ring.
"Jason?" Sam said.
"Yah," I said, "you doing okay?"
"Yah I'm alright, just grabbing some dinner tonight, you doing okay? You normally don't call while at work unless something's wrong." She said.
"Well nothing was wrong at first," I said, "I got done with work early, but the car won't start, Oliver's giving me a ride home with the car in toe. Just wanted you to know what was up."
"Alright, I'll be home in a few minutes, just be careful with the car. I'll call up your brother to fix it, least we get discount so it's easier not to hate mechanics, or at least Keven" she said.
"I'm starting to think that's the only reason you like Kevin." I said.
I couldn't see her face, but I could hear the smile on the other end, her sarcasm so apparent, "Oh honey, there are many reasons why I like your piece of shit older brother; his views on women are so charming, and I just love seeing him make a complete ass of himself blackout drunk."
I laughed, "And here I thought I was the only one who noticed."
"I got the cables ready Jay, wrap it up." Oliver yelled from his car.
"Gotta run, see you when I get home." I said.
"Alright, ask Oliver if he wants some dinner, there's plenty." Sam said before hanging up.
