A few days after that crazy night at the skating rink me and Nate became official. Oh and I haven't heard from that nigga drew since. Thank gawd! But anyways I've been helping Nate with his physical therapy because after he stood on his own he felt so confident he wanted to speed up the process. It's not easy because I'm trying to balance school, my job and helping my baby out. It's stressful , so stressful that I've lost 20 pounds. I'm not complaining because as I mentioned earlier I've always struggled with my weight. The doctor told me that being this stressed isn't good for my anxiety but I gotta do what I gotta do. Anyways later on I'm making me and Nate a special dinner because today is our 1 month anniversary. I was super Excited if I'm being honest. I don't know what it is about Nate but he's different that the other guys. I was deep in thought , smiling ear from ear when I hear a knock on the door. I wasn't expecting anybody so I peeped out of the peephole. It was Nate, I took a minute to answer the door because I haven't even been grocery shopping yet . I told him be here at 6:30. It's 3:30. When I finally opened he door he asked what took so long .. I didn't answer. He came in and told me that he couldn't wait to give me my present so he came early. He reached in his jacket pocket and pulled a small velour box with a blue satin Ribbon tied around it. He handed the box to me and told me to open it.
When I finally opened the box I was so shocked. It was beautiful. But It looked way to valuable.
"NATE! I can't take this."
"Why not ?"
"Because what I have for you isn't even close to as valuable as this?"
"I told you not to get me anything."
"technically I didn't."
" I made you something.. Well it was going to be dinner and a movie but I haven't been grocery shopping yet."
"I want you to keep the ring. You don't have to wear it just keep it on a chain or somethings . And go shopping I can chill here and watch tv."
I kissed him on the cheek and grabbed my purse and ran out of the door."
While at the store I grabbed all the ingredients I needed to make homemade crawfish pasta and garlic herb steak.. Oh and a strawberry cheese cake. As I was checking out I heard someone screaming my name. I turned around to see one of drews homeboys . I think his name was Stacey.
"Hey Carmen can I talk to you for a min.. It's important."
"Yeah give me a second to pay for this and put my bags in the car."
"I'll help you with the bags while we talk."
"Okay , so what is it you need to talk to me about?"
"It's about drew.."
"I don't wanna hear about that fool."
"Well he's in jail and he is fighting a murder charge and no one not even his lady is answering his calls. I know he can be a bitch sometimes but his trial date in set for next Tuesday. If you can make it to support him -- you know the jury sympathize with the defendant if the family is supportive."
"Look stace. I'm not a cold hearted insensitive bitch and that's why drew messed over me in the first place but I'll try to see if me and my guy can make it."
" okay Carmen thanks." He turned and walked away.
"Aye stace!" I called out.
He turned around
" tell drew I said keep his head up and I'm praying for him."
"Will do."
I hopped in my whip and drove home .
When I got home I saw Nate was K.O'd he must have been tired from all the physical therapy.
I put the groceries away and began to cook.
The food took about a hour and thirty minutes.
Once I set the table and made our plates I woke
Nate up. He got his self together and made way to the table. We said grace and then we tagged the food. After dinner we decided we'd wait to eat dessert.
But dinner wasn't the only present I had for Nate. I had a surprise for him. The movie part of dinner and a movie.
"As you know I'm a graphic design major and a English minor."
"Yes ma'am how could I ever forget?"
"Well come on I have a surprise for you."
I had digitally edited all of our pictures and videos to where it looked like Nate was able to walk. It was called "if." And under every picture and video it has a if then statement.
As the video wrapped I looked at Nate and tears were scrolling down his beautiful face and said " if you wouldn't have came into my life I probably wouldn't be as happy as I am today. You saved me baby."
I leaned down and to try to kiss him but he pulled away.
I didn't know what was wrong.
"What if I never walk again Carmen? Will you still want me? Will you still walk me? Will you still love me?"
"honey!. You will walk again. Just like you learned to move your hands again. Just how you had enough strength to stand up and look drew in his eyes that night at the rink."
"BUT WHAT IF I DONT CARMEN?"
"I can't believe you're really asking me if I can love you if you never walked again. NATE I met you in this chair. If you want the truth I've already thought about you never walking again and I'm perfectly fine with that. I've come to terms with your chair .. Have you?"
"I'm scared. I want you to have a normal life. A normal man. Normal happiness."
"Ain't shit about me normal .. Besides you. You make me feel like I'm living the life everyone wants babe."
" you promise you're okay with the chair?"
"I promise."
