Bad

It was a Thursday. The day the teacher assigned our science partners. She said, "You'll be partners with this person for the rest of the semester, so might as well become friends." I had no problem until I figured out who my partner was, Niall Horan, the most popular boy in school. He's popular because he's rich and plays all the sports and plays them well. Everyone at school seemed to be in love with him. But me, I didn't really care about him. He was a spoiled dick and dated a different girl every week. I knew I had to put all my problems aside about him if we were going to work well together. Nothing turned out the way I expected.

I sat in the back of the classroom because I hated sitting anywhere else, I always felt awkward and uncomfortable if I did. Niall just casually walked over and sat down next to me and neither of us said anything to each other. By the end of the class the teacher told us that we had a project due by the end of next week and we had to work on it with our partner. Thinking the type of person Niall was, I was probably gonna be stuck doing all the work. Near the end of class Niall turned to me and said, "So... listen, how about you come over to my house and we'll work on this project." He forcefully talked and sounded frustrated and annoyed. He didn't wait for me to agree to it and kept talking, "I'll give you my address and come over at 6, I'll be done with football practice by then. I'll make dinner," he scoffed, sounding annoyed that he had to deal with dinner, "and we can discuss the project." I just looked at him while he wrote his address down for me. When he handed the piece of paper to me I realized neither of my parents were going to be home until late tonight and I didn't have a ride over to his house. I tried telling him, "Oh, um, Niall, I don't have a ride," he interupted me to say, "Just walk, don't be lazy." His tone was so irritating. I was hurt by what he said but I didn't get time to say anything back because the bell rang, ending the day.

---

Since I didn't have a ride and Niall wasn't going to pick me up, like I hoped he would, I had to leave my house around 5:30. I brought my bookbag along and it was heavy and it was also cold tonight and all I had on was jeans and a shirt with a hoodie over it. I can't believe I thought it, but I couldn't wait to get to Niall's house, I was cold and hungry. Niall irritated me more than anyone and I wasn't that happy that I had to be science partners with him, but I must admit it wasn't that bad having an excuse to look at him so much. He has these incredible blue eyes, a sexy deep irish accent and dirty blonde hair that he dyes blonde but has a lot of brown at his roots. For someone I hated so much I sure did notice a lot about him. I cringed at what I was thinking. After about a 2 mile walk I arrived at his house at 6:15.

When I got to the door I hesitantly rang the doorbell. Niall opened the door and stood there. I could see the big, open, layout of his house, elegant everything. I could feel the warmth from his house coming out of the door. "You're late," he said, again annoyed. He always talked like he was annoyed and it was getting old. All I could say was, "Sorry," as I shrugged. He rolled his eyes and opened the door and said, "Come in, the pizza's in the kitchen, help yourself." I was so hungry and I would usually be nervous to eat around a guy like Niall but I went ahead and ate a piece. "Thanks, Niall," I said. "Yeah, whatever, no problem," he said as if it were no big deal. Which it obviously wasn't because he was fucking rich. His kitchen was extravagant and huge. Marble counters and beautiful looking cupboards. His house had an open floor plan and the kitchen was open to the dining room and family room where the plasma tv and big couch sat. I was looking around as I ate the pizza Niall obviously ordered, not made. No one was talking and it was getting kind of awkward and finally Niall said, "So, about this project." His voice wasn't as annoyed-sounding as usual, it was smooth and quiet. I nodded, not knowing what to say, so he talked instead. "How about we just finish it up tonight? Is that alright? I don't wanna push it off to next week and do it at the last minute." He was rubbing the back of his neck and he spoke quickly as if he was nervous to say that to me. I was shocked by what he said. He sounded smart and that he was wanting to do the project and not procrastinate and I was impressed, but I didn't wanna just finish it tonight, that'd be too much. I spoke up, "Well how about we work on it a lot tonight and finish it up over the weekend?" He let out an almost angry sounding sigh, "Yeah, whatever let's do that."

---

We got pretty far on the science project and it was getting late, almost around 11. As the night went on Niall got more and more subdued and would talk more gently than his usual tone. When he didn't constantly sound annoyed he actually seemed really nice. As it got later I started to wonder where his parents were. I didn't hear anyone come in the door and I didn't hear any sign that anyone had come home. It made me wonder where his parents were and why they weren't home with his son. For a split second I was going to ask where they were, then I figured it'd be best not to. After a while it got a bit late and decided  I needed to get home. I said, "Niall, I should be getting home." I started to stand up and put my backpack on my back until Niall's voice stopped me, "You can just stay here for the night." I froze in my  place and Niall just stared at me. "I don't know Niall, that's a generous offer but I don't think I can." I half smiled, happy that he offered. But I didn't have any clothes for tomorrow and I just felt like I'd be missing a lot of supplies for school if I didn't go home. He sighed, then yawned as he stood up, "Okay, well I'll drive you home." I looked at him and turned my head, "So now you give me a ride." I raised my eyebrows questioning him, wondering what he might say next or that he might explain for his actions earlier of not giving me a ride but all he said was, "Don't push it, you're lucky I'm driving you home, I could always let you walk." I scoffed at his words, they made me so pissed, so I just turned and walked out of the room and towards the front door, Niall followed me out. We got in the car and we didn't say one word to each other during the ride. The tension was so awkward but I didn't want to say anything, he still got on my absolute last nerve.

When we pulled up to my house, I got out of the car and all I said was, "Thanks for the ride. I'll see you tomorrow." He simply waved, acknowledging me, and once I got in the house he drove home, to his big, lonely, mansion, all by himself.
