||Awkward Encounters||

•Chapter 8•

Maddie's POV

"Let's swim!" Melissa yelled, running into the water.

I shrugged, threw off my sundress, and followed her in. Normally, it would seem awkward, but here, things weren't like that.

I squealed as cold water splashed me. It was Luke. I splashed him back and giggled.

I heard voices up the beach, and the people that must be Faith, Crystal, Darin, and Jack raced down to the water. I gulped. Melissa said Faith was my friend; how would she react when I wouldn't remember her?

"Hey Em!" Faith screamed, giving me a big hug.

I awkwardly hugged her back. Melissa spotted me and gave me a sympathetic look.

"Oh, hi Faith," I said quietly.

"So, your not sick anymore?" she asked, pulling away.

I shook my head.

"Not really! But umm...actually, there is something weird. I can't really remember much, I don't know why."

That wasn't entirely true. I felt bad about lying to Melissa and Faith, but they wouldn't believe the truth.

She frowned slightly, and took a tiny step back.

"So...you don't remember me?" she whispered.

I bit my lip, drawing a little blood.

"Not really, I'm sorry! But maybe if you remind me of things, it'll help me remember!"

She nodded and glanced around.

"I'm going to go say hi to everyone else, ok? I'll talk to you later!" Faith waved and ran through the water over to everyone else.

I stood there awkwardly for a second, I didn't know what to do. I didn't feel comfortable enough to walk over to them, so I looked around.

I spotted a tree that was good for climbing near the edge of the woods, and climbed up to the nearest branch. Once I settled in, I heard a twig snap behind me. My face went pale, and I quickly turned around, staring face-to-face with a tall boy about my age.
