•Chapter 16•
Maddie's POV
I coughed as I walked into the small brick building. I was panting, because Melissa, Alexander, Hunter, Zachary, and I had ran after our bus. And I don't mean running a couple of blocks, try 2 miles. I'm pretty sure from now on I will not be late. Strangely enough, my hair and makeup were fine.
Maybe Emily had missed the bus more than I imagined.
I froze in place as I realized I had no idea where I was supposed to go. I quickly looked around, but no one I knew was around. I bit my lip, drawing blood.
The hallway was small, considering it was a tiny building. It was the typical old school you read about in books; brick building, dark, plain grey walls, and of course the kids that always looked more scary than they were.
Except for me, the scary part was their clothing. I chuckled to myself.
It looked like the rainbow threw up on them! And apparently they haven't heard of clothing that was the right size.
A thought struck me; they were all thin. Not that it really mattered, but it puzzled me for some reason.
I screamed as someone crashed into me, sending my books across the hall. They grabbed me before I fell, and I spun around to see who it was.
"Oh hey Andrew!" I smiled weakly at him.
His face flushed and he quickly gathered my books for me.
"I'm so sorry!" he sputtered.
"Oh, it's cool!" I said, laughing.
He cocked his head to the side, confused.
"Oh...umm I mean it's fine. By any chance, do you know where my class is?"
Smooth Maddie.
Again, he seemed confused.
"Sure, we're in the same class..."
I gritted my teeth and followed his down to the door farthest from the entrance.

Apparently, my question was more stupid than I thought. Since there was such a little amount of students, kids from Kindergarden to 4th grade were in one room, 5th to 8th in another, and 9th to 12th grade in the last.
I was in 7th grade, meaning I had already spent two years in this room.
Wow, I wonder what everyone thinks about Emily being 10 times more dumb than she was last week.
I scanned the classroom; one of them had to be Jared. In her diary, Emily said he had short, light brown hair and hazel eyes. Then I remembered that he was an athlete, and it narrowed it down quite a bit. How much more obvious could it be? Jared was the one wearing his school football jersey, which I may mention his number read 1. I rolled my eyes at how I didn't notice earlier, and maybe because he looked so self centered.
I drummed my pencil lightly on my desk until class was over, and it was time for lunch. I decided I would talk to Jared to see just what this kid was like.
"Hey Jared!" I called to him.
He turned around and nervously smiled at me.
"Oh, hello Emily."
I bit my lip, not knowing what to say.
"So, wanna eat lunch with me?" I questioned finally.
He glanced over his shoulder and frowned.
"I'm sorry Emily, but I have to go," he said quickly, and ran in the other direction.
I sighed and turned to head to the lunchroom.
I thought Melissa said we were close?
At lunch, I didn't fail to notice that Jared and Faith were the only ones not there. I pondered at this for a while, but shook it off.
Why would I care?
