*Freddie's POV*
"Okay, let me run through this once more: You and Dan come back from dinner to find Dan's- very pregnant- ex stood at his door." Sam began, I nodded (and kept nodding at the end of every sentence until Sam had repeated all of last nights events.) She sat in silence, then took a bite of pretzel and jumped off the bench, joining my side by the river "And you're totally okay with all this?"
"Yes. I'm okay with it." I answered sharply, looking through the viewfinder of my camera and capturing the view of the water in one quick shot.
"So it doesn't bother you that Dan's with her right now- just the two of them- house hunting? It doesn't bother you that Dan could be the father of her child? You don't mind that you're going to France in two days, leaving them alone for a whole-"
"What do you think Sam?" I snapped, letting go of the camera and letting it hit my chest forcefully "Of course I mind. Dan's attractive, Liv's... stunning, there's history and a lot of old feelings."
"So tell Dan"
"I don't want to do that"
"Why not? Fred come on, he's your boyfriend you should be able to tell him if you're uncomfortable with whatever's going on."
"Because he has enough on his plate already: with the bands fan base growing and with the impending possibility that he's gonna be a dad I'm sure he doesn't need a jealous girlfriend at the same time" I explained, sighing and wandering off to find another spot to take photos.
"Okay, you do you, but, just keep an eye out on their-her- behaviour yeah?"
"Yeah" We walked in silence until Sam started telling me about introducing Kyle to her family at the weekend, however, I was only half paying attention as I was lost in a sea of thoughts about Dan and Liv, looking around apartments together and estate agents thinking they were some adorable newlywed couple hoping to start a loving family with the help of sparkling new- "Fred!" Sam nudged me assertively "Are you even listening to me?"
"No Sam I'm not. One minute you're making sure I'm worrying about Dan and Liv and then next you're pissed because I'm doing exactly that. Look just because you're in a perfect relationship with perfect Kyle doesn't mean everyone else's relationships are all sunshine and rainbows!" Sam stopped in her tracks, frowning and her mouth agape. "Sorry, that was out of line... But Sam, you know I'm not like you, I can't just walk up to someone and speak my mind" I reminded my friend with a soft, apologetic tone.
"I know," Sam began, catching up with me and draping her arm over my shoulders "I'm sorry, I just really want this to work out for you Fred..."
"Funnily enough, so do I" I cut in sarcastically, making both of us laugh loudly (even though it wasn't that funny).
"So, whether you talk to Dan or not, I'm right here yeah?" I nodded and wrapped my arm round her waist gratefully. "Right. Let's get food I'm starving" Sam suggested racing ahead of me and pulling me forward.
"You just ate a huge pretzel, how are you still hungry?"
"Firstly; not everyone can live off Muesli and salad their whole life like you. Secondly; that pretzel was salty as fuck, I need something sweet to balance it out." Sam continued to pull me forward until we were back on the main street and making a beeline directly towards Sam's favourite bakery. "So I come back into the living room to find my gran sat- basically on Kyle's lap- giving him some talk about us 'popping out those grandkids'. So, obviously, I send gran away and turn to Kyle who, bless him, is so sweet about it, he's there laughing it off like it's no problem while his eyes are making him look like a deer in the headlights and-"
