Chapter 2

A puzzle piece

Frustrated, I scratched my head- gosh, I still couldn't find the keys. Dad's really gonna kill me. I already finished my class in algebra and I still can't find it. Now I'm just waiting in this class for the new professor. She's a girl, I heard.

"Hey," Lizzy called from her seat, "you okay?"

"Oh, hey Liz. I'm alright- I'm just trying to find something."

"What did you lose," with her eyebrow raised, Jenny asked.

Jenny and Lizzy- my only two best friends I have. We always got each other’s backs even if the road gets rough. I appreciate them because they are always there for me. Not like other friends who show up when it’s fun, yet disappears and never talks to you when you’re down- those aren’t real friends. Yet these two over here are one. Lizzy is a dark skinned and Jenny is Asian- Chinese actually.

"Car keys."

"Oh my gosh, really?" Liz asked, dumbfounded.

"Yeah- that's what got me so worked up this whole morning," I sighed.

"How did your  parents react?" Jenny asked. I remembered how Dad reacted- I smirked: then chuckled.

"Get a coffin for me- coz that's where I'm gonna go if I don't find it," I said jokingly.

The door opened- a woman, who looked like she was about twenty-five years old, walked on the platform (that was just in front of us) with bright smile. Wow, I like her already, I thought.  She stopped by her desk and cheerfully beamed at us.

"Hello students! My name is Prof Stephanie Solet. I am your new..." She stopped speaking, like she was distracted by something.

What caused this- you might ask. The answer: me. She looked at me with curiosity- does she know me?

"Excuse me," she said to me, "is your name Kelley Gardner?"

How did she knew my name?

"Yes," surprised, I said. "Excuse me, do I know you?"

"No, probably not," she said with suspicion. “It’s just strange that I have a friend who looks exactly you and, to make the matters even stranger, you both have the same names. Do you have a twin Ms. Gardner?"

 "None."

"Hmmm." Then she paused for a while as to meditate, not breaking her gaze. Then, her mood suddenly changes- from that of curious to the same gay self when she entered the room.

"Sorry about that Ms. Gardner- probably it is just too much of a coincidence. You just really looked like my friend."

I gave her a smile to reassure her that no offense was taken. After receiving more apologies from her, and me keeping her appeased that I truly was not hurt, she got on to teaching.
