The guards, Knight Marcus and Jayce were too excited about being home to notice the dirty and ragged girl tied to the horn of a saddle, who was practically dragged through the mud. Lucy had hoped that once they reached Stancely that they would untie her. Alec ran behind her, his tongue flopping out of his mouth. She was disgraced as they raced their horses down the hill to the gates, Lucy stumbling, tripping and falling. Halfway down the hill she lost her footing, not being able to keep up with the pace and fell to her knees. Her knees were scraped, and her wrists, which were already bruised, starting to sting, then bleed as they were cut open.

The guards at the gates checked them over, but seeing as how Knight Marcus and Prince Jayce were with them, they let them slide on by without even noticing Alec or Lucy, blood from her wrists and knees mixing with the mud that plastered itself to her and her clothing. She was a disgrace, ugly to look at and she was ashamed of herself.

She bowed her head, barely paying any attention to all the stares the people gave them. The prince and most honored knight had a captive girl. The people thought that Lucy was a rebel or spy of a sort and started chucking rotted food at her. Her guard sat on his horse laughing at her, as did the other men. Jayce and Marx rode up ahead a long ways so they did not notice what was going on. They waved cheerily to the crowd, glad to be back home. Lucy hated the place already. The people, the walls closing in around her, no freedom, and the fact that the people thought she was merely just a slave girl.

She was of noble birth, related to the crowd's beloved knight, and yet this was how she was treated. Well she had had enough. She held her head up high, cleared her throat and protested against the guard, tugging at her ropes to get free. Blood oozed out of her wrists yet she kept tugging, inflicting pain on herself. Maybe she would faint before they got the the castle, that way the queen and king wouldn't see her like this.

"I am of a noble birth, why do my people protest against me? Why, my uncle, do they hate me? Have I not suffered enough that they think I need to be shamed?" Lucy screamed above the cheers and yelling. "They have forsaken me! They have forsaken me, Marcus! Are you going to stand for that? Would your sister approve of your actions now? Why, my uncle, do they hate me? Have I done something wrong?"

Lucy now cried and her tears mixed with mud and slid greasily down her grimey cheeks. She screamed, yelled, tugged at her ropes and kicked at the people who dared to go near her. She would not be ashamed, especially not by her uncle. They finally arrived at the steps of the great castle, and on the top step, stood a beautiful woman with flowing strawberry hair in a neat ponytail, amazing green eyes and a bright smile on her lips. The king was impressive, curly black hair, cold gray eyes unlike Jayce's and his mouth was a thin line. Two girls, both in similar purple and blue dresses stood beside their parents. One had bright red hair and kind blue eyes. The other had wavy black hair and hazel eyes that took in every detail. A tall handsome boy stood next to his father, almost towering over the king who seemed short, even on the top step. He had auburn hair tied back into a pontail, much like Marcus's, kind green eyes and a bright smile also. All were smiling except the king.

Knight Marcus slid off his horse and bowed to the king and queen. Jayce jumped off Ebony and raced to his mother who he hugged dearly. Lucy remained in the back, struggling with the ropes. If only she could reach the man's dagger to free herself, then she could escape to go back home. Alec stood beside her, not a care in the world and was actually paying attention to a meat booth.

"My queen, my king. It is great to see you again. Along with the princesses and prince. I am glad to be home." Knight Marcus's voice rang loud and clear and at the sound of it, everyone quieted down. The king nodded and Jayce and his mother exchanged quiet words.
