I stood in a grass plain reaching infinitely around me. Fog brushed my legs, cold and unwelcoming. The only place that wasn't charred, dead grass was the small stone patch I stood on. There was no sun, no moon, no stars. Just a grey, uniform, unchanging light that did not emit from anything. THe light was simply there. It was a fact, always present. A pole stood at the edge of the stone. On the pole was a rusted, weathered, ancient sign: Welcome to Purgatory.
They're coming for you and I swear that no matter what happens. No matter how long or how far away, I will find you. Please. Never forget me not matter what they do to you. You were always strong enough to fight them off. Now be strong enough to make that fight matter. You were chosen a long time ago. A voice echoed around me. It hissed and picked at my thoughts. It pulled and prodded at my ideas.
CHOSEN FOR WHAT?? I screamed. WHAT HAVE I DONE TO BE HERE?? WHAT IS COMING? I sank to my knees in defeat. I don't want to be alone. I cried. My tears came down my face and hissed into steam as they fell.
Seven Devils walk around him. Seven devils in his house. You will die before the day is done. He comes, he goes, unseen, un-noticed. He has all power and all meaning. There are those who help him and those who oppose him. Already, one devil has passed their judgement on him. Six left. You took a path that will take your soul. When the Eagal flies, she will rain her fury upon him.
So who am I in all of this?
The one who regrets, then the one who forgets. You are not a devil. Not yet. You are a Wielder. You are the one who flies. You lose your soul. You die. You are a judge. He tempted the fates. Pass your judgement.
On who?
You will know when the time comes. I have one last message for you.
What's that?
Wake up. Wake up now because time is almost out.
I stood up, filled with a new strength and set off into the grey dawn because now I know why I have endured so much pain. Now I know why I have done all this. I have a diamond heart and nothing can change me. I had to come here. I had to do this. I was born to die. I know who I am now.
