I woke up because of the continuous ringing of my phone. I looked at the clock. What the hell? Its 4 in the morning who could be calling now? I received it and Jamie's voice came from the other side of the line. "Todd you have to come by Amanda's house she's screaming and only calling out your name she won't calm down until you show up." She hang up and I jumped out of the bed quickly. I put on my hoodie and a pair of jeans and got out of my house as quickly as i could. Amanda's house was a few houses away from mine so i ran through the empty street to get there as fast as i can.
She must be having another nightmare. It ocasionaly happened when someone talked about her ex Steven. Since he had gone to jail for commiting murder Amanda hasn't slept peacefully. She either had nightmares or didn't sleep all night scared of seeing his face.She was my best friend I would do anything to make her feel better. I entered through the front door it was already open. I went straight to her bedroom and saw her. She was sitting up on the bed with a pillow to her chest with her hair all messed up. As soon as i entered she looked at me and climbed off the bed. She came running to me putting her arms around my neck and her head on my shoulder. I hugged her back putting my arms around her waist smelling her hair. Shit! Why did I always do that? She was only my friend and nothing else. i couldn't think of her that way.
she looked up at me."Finally." She sighed and I looked into her eyes." You not happy and I won't come to make you feel better never gonna happen." She smiled a smile that stirred something in me which I couldn't put my name on. I looked behind her and saw Jamie standing with a look of relief on her face. Amanda went to the bathroom to freshen up and Iasked Jamie wat had happened. "She started screaming and burst through her door. I was in my room and when I found her in front of her bedroom door she was crying. i have no idea how to cope with this any longer. i just wish mom and dad were here." She suddenly looked really tired and I could understand why.With Amanda she also hadn't had a good night's sleep. She was too worried about her sister."If its okay i can stay here tonight and sleep on the couch if it will help." I looked at her carefully trying to look for any objection. But instead she brightened and said,"It would be perfect. She trusts you and would feel safer if you are here."She kissed me on the cheek and left the room. Well that's great.By the look on her face she would probably sleep well tonight and so will I.
Amanda came out of the bathroom looking better than before. "So I asked your sister if I could stay here for the night and she agreed." I hadn't thought about this before but now it made me really nervous. What if she wasn't ok with it? "So your gonna sleep ....." her voice trailing off. "On the couch." I finished for her. She raised her eyebrows. "That's downstairs its better if you sleep in my bedroom." She said as if I was out of my mind to sleep on the couch. "Okay whatever suits you."
Amanda was lying awake in her bed trying to sleep and i was on the floor trying to do the same thing. Finally I said,"Looks like I won't be able to sleep tonight might as well do something interesting." I got up and went to her shelf where tonnes of books were kept.I turned on the light and picked L.J.Smith's "The Vampire Diaries." I started reading it just then Amanda said in a sleepy voice," I think Im gonna sleep." She rolled on to her side and was asleep in a minute.
After a while i looked at her still fast asleep. She was so beautiful even with her hair messed up and dark circles under her eyes. Why did she have to go through so much? What could she have possibly done to deserve this? I decided not to linger on it and go back to my book. But I coudn't take my eyes off her. Involuntarily I raised my hand to toch her soft cheek then her nose and lips. She stirred and i thought she was awake but she didnt open her eyes so I was wrong. She looked like she was not gonna have anymore nightmares but still i stayed awake till dawn keeping myself busy by reading the book.
