As I walked home from school with Yui and her friends, I gazed over the scenery. Yui and her parents ran a shrine, and so did mine. We were in the same direction, but I had to go through the shrine run by the Kusanagi family and climb up many steps to get to the shrine I lived at.
I lived almost alone, except for my father, who taught me karate and taikwondo, as well as kendo. I was already graduated from highschool with good marks at a young age of sixteen, and then I went to Akira Kenjutsu, Kenjutsu being the word for schools of Japanese swordsmanship.
Since I started doing swordplay with Yui when I was younger, I would help teach her, and this relationship changed from acquaintance to friendship, since we both found interest in similar things.
The other two girls then walked off in another direction, while Yui and I continued on to where we had to go, pondering about different things.
I was getting to the top of all the martial arts I was practising, and my private tutor was only just better than me, meanwhile, I could beat half my teachers and all the students in Akira Kenjutsu, which meant I would be graduating soon.
When we reached the Yui's shrine, I turned to her.
"Yui-chan, are you alright? You seem rather quiet today." I put my hand on her shoulder to get her to look up at me.
"No, I'm fine." she tried to smile.
I smiled back. "I know you are hiding from me that you are upset and distracted, but talk to me if you need help, I'll definitely be there to talk with you."
"Thanks, Masaki-chan. Oh, and I forgot to ask, why have you recently been wearing the boy uniform of your school?"
I snickered. "I told a guy that is he dressed in the girls' uniform for one day, I will crossdress for the rest of school. It was amusing, to say the least, and I am quite willing to hold up my end of the deal."
"You would be willing to?" she asked curiously.
"Yep, and I can pull off a boy look very well. I like cross dressing, and I did it in primary and secondary school." I grinned mischievously.
Yui smiled and laughed, saying how she remembered our first meeting.
- Flashback -
I watched the town from my perch on the rock, and wondered why anyone would want to live in a place like that. It was disgusting and polluted, and I could smell something rotten in the air every time I went down there.
There was a rustle in the bushes, and I turned around to see a girl panting.
"Oh, hey," I greeted her. "Watcha doing here?"
"I'm playing with my friends! We're playing tag. Do you wanna play?" she answered.
"I think I would beat you all. It would be too easy." I shrugged. When training in martial arts, running becomes very easy.
"Aw, come on, will you please mister?" she asked.
"Huh? Why did you call me mister?" I raised my eyebrow. "I'm seven, and despite the fact I'm wearing a boy's kimono, I'm a girl."
"You speak like a... book!" she grinned. "I don't care if you're a girl or a boy, come and play with my friends and me. It'd be fun!"
I considered her for a moment. She seemed to have a strong body. "Do you practise swordplay?"
"Yeah, I do! How'd you know?"
I shrugged. "I won't play with you right now, but I wouldn't mind seeing how good you are at swordplay later. You live at that shrine down there, right?"
