BEEEEEEP! Went the last hour bell signaling the end of school. Everyone including me rushed out of class. Algebra 2 was a dragggg. I huffed up the flight of stairs from the second to the third floor to the locker Camille and I shared. I spotted her and Amara standing at our locker. Camille, Amara, and I had become the best of friends, thick as thieves, the three muskateers- (get the picture? ok.) over the past two months. It was now toward the end of October.
"Soooo," Camille began, "Trey is supposed to be throwing this crackin' halloween party tomorrow night. I was thinking we could go together." She rushed enthusiastically. Trey was the big man around school. You know, the captain of every popular sport, the guy every girl wants to get next to. I'd known him since we were in first grade. My mama even babysat him a few times but we were never close. No lie, he was kind of cute but a major jerk.
"I don't know." I responded hesitantly grabbing my coat.
"Come on girl. It'll be fun!" She proceeded.
"I'm down." Amara agreed as we walked toward the stairwell.
They both directed their eyes toward me and gave me the puppy eyes and I just couldn't resist.
"Alright!" I let out a loud sigh. "Just let me ask my mama." They jumped up in excitement.
"Yay! Ok this is what we have to do: we'll meet up at my aunt's house around seven, get dressed, and we can take the bus to Trey's house. Afterward, you can just spend the night over my aunt's place so bring extra clothes."
I listened as Camille rambled on and thought, Boy can this girl talk! I love her though!
As we made it to the student parking lot where the buses were located we put the final touches on our plans, promised to call, and headed our separate ways.
Lord knows I can't wait until I get a car! I thought as wind whipped my face and put my natural hair all over the place.
So deep in thought about my upcoming plans, again I paid no mind to where I was headed and bumped into a hard chest.
I looked up hesitantly.
Sweet Jesus it's him! My heart beat rapidly. Hawt stuff- I mean Amani was standing right before me looking good as always.
"Hey, long time no bump." He said jockingly.
I giggled nervously and reciprocated, "Yeah I'm so sorry again. It seems as if I'm destined to run into a pole one day."
His eyebrows furrowed trying to read me I guess.
Bad joke. I thought. Why am I so daggone awkward! I screamed on the inside.
"So have you heard about Trey's party tomorrow night?" I asked changing the subject.
"Yeah I heard." He answered nonchalantly looking off into the distance.
"Are you going?"
"Yeah if Amara is going. I have to protect my sister you know what I mean?" He said, this time looking directly in my eyes making my insides melt despite the cold temperature outside.
Sencing the buses about to pull off, I ended our little conversation.
"Well I guess I have to go... See you tomorrow?"
"Sure. Bye Essence." He smiled.
"Later." I said slightly jogging my heavy frame to my bus before it left me stranded.
On the bus I went over the whole conversation.
He's coming to the party? He remembers my name? He smiled at me! Oh my Lord. I got to be cute tomorrow!" I beamed all the way home.

Camille's POV
I sighed as I sank into the rusted tub full of hot water. I was so sore I just needed to relax. But relaxation didn't come in a rodent infested house full of lies, secrets, and deceit. I was physically and emotionally drained.
I was tired of being hurt day in and day out but where was there to turn? A lone tear escaped the corner of my eye.
"Camille!" My drunken father screamed for me.
I slowly got out of the tub gearing up to perform my daughterly duties....
Hey now! a lot happened in this chapter! comment and vote tell me what you think. will essence and amani hook up at the party? whats really going on with camille?until next time
