Chapter 6

---

Haymitch POV

I sit down on my bed, thinking things over. The left side of my brain is saying, "Don't read it, she'll kill you!", but my right, particularly my favorite side, is saying, "Read it, you'll have more things to bother her about and find out how to get revenge on her." I choose the right side.

I struggle opening the diary with a little key strung onto the book, but finally my large hands defeat the tiny key. I grin widely, knowing I will find something good in here. I stumble across a shocking entry,

"Today was not okay. Haymitch, of course, as always, nagged me and made snarky remarks and sarcastic comments about me all day. Sometimes he is nice and comforting, but then he's also mean. I don't know which one is the sober him or the drunk him, but I reckon you the sober him is rare, which nice and comforting is also rare for him. Goodbye for now,

With lots of love, Effie."

Who knew this woman thought of other things than her big, big days, and her schedule? I put the diary back down on my nightstand, determined to finish it all by tomorrow.

Peeta POV

I move around the house, trembling and nervous, hoping Katniss is okay. If she gets hurt, or into a fight, will the baby survive? Will she be well enough to give birth? Will she forget about our love? These thoughts haunt me for hours, but quickly leave me when I see her smiling face. "Where've you been?", I ask her.
"Dropped off something at Haymitch's, and I went to the hospital. We don't know the gender of the baby yet, but in a month I'm coming back. Surely, we will know then."
"I was worried about you, you should've told me where you were going."
"Sorry, it was really urgent. I found some very useful information I thought Haymitch would like."
"Oh, okay, I'm just happy you're home." She hugs me, reassuring me that everything's okay, and that she will have a smooth pregnancy. A sudden idea pops into my head, and I shout, "I'm making your favorite dinner tonight!"
Astonished, Katniss says, "That's lovely, thank you." And she walks off into our bedroom. I wonder what this "useful information" is that Haymitch would like.
