"elodie?"
"phil!"
he pulled her into a tight hug. "what are you doing out here?! i thought you weren't supposed to be outside!"
elodie grit her teeth. she hated that she had to lie to phil, but there was no other way. if he knew the truth, he'd force her back inside, and there was no way that she could take that.
"they're allowing me one day out." she smiled widely. this was her one day. she couldn't afford to think about how she would never have any more of them.
"that's great!" phil exclaimed.
"so, i was hoping you could hang out for the day? there's a fair going on downtown. i thought we could go check it out." elodie twisted her fingers into her sundress nervously.
phil beamed. "sure! that sounds great!"
he grabbed her hand in his and tugged her away from the hospital, and towards the rest of the world.
