Review
It's about men and women whom live their lives as humans and as wolves. Shape shifters, wolverine style. It's also about acceptance of who we are and where we stand in our own societies. The loner or the leader. The loser or one of the pack.
He wants but will not commit, she wants but knows she mustn't. Sex isn't sex ... it's mating, except when it's in human form then it's anything you like.
Heavy on lust and pack instinct this is an adult themed storyline although I am aware this enchantment, within our chameleon lifestyles, is something that appeals to all ages.
Characters
Main characters: Roane, Marcus, Scarlett, Amy.
Others: Police officers, pups, humans.
Story
Every pack has its leader, its alpha male. To remain as leader the alpha male must lead, fight for the pack and fight of suitors for his mates (vixens). Every pack also to have at least one or two females.
This pack is lead by Marcus. His sister Scarlett is the alpha female. Marcus will never mate with her but he will defend her to his last drop of blood. Blood ties are strong here.
Roane, like Marcus, is also an alpha male wolf in human form. He has come from outside the group, from another district, out of the city. Ceding his right to fight his own brother for the right to lead his own pack he has been looking for another pack where he can live as one of the group without being its leader.
Marcus, aware of Roane's obvious dormant alpha animal's nature, asks his sister Scarlett to watch Roane and to warn him if Roane make plans to challenge him but his plans back fire. Scarlett, instead of keeping Roane away, finds the chemistry between them all too much. Animal magnetism pulls them together in a trial of sexual lust. All Roane wants is Scarlett and a quiet life. All Scarlett wants is Roane, peace between him and her brother. She wants it all but knows it is only a dream.
Convinced his sister has failed, Marcus (in his human form) has Roane and Scarlett arrested but kept apart. Amy (Scarlett's housemate), knows her friend well and engineers Roane's escape. Roane rushes to release Scarlett but Marcus arrives before they can get away. What happens next is a fight between a leader and a challenger who doesn't want to fight. They both face certain death but neither can stay alive with Scarlett in the pack.
Conclusion (Para Lead)
Well written it took me out of my comfort zone which is where I wanted to go however I was looking for more. Instead of a glimpse of the shape shifting genre I got an excuse for rumpy-pumpy and adult sex dressed up in wolves clothing. I am left me unsatisfied. Not of the sex but more from the story line.
So is it a good read?
Weirdly yes and no. It was all over much too soon. My name is Oliver. I want more.
