She Paints A Pretty Picture

This is a Degrassi fanfic that's completely AU except for the characters. Each chapter is based off a song title. I hope you guys enjoy this story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Chapter 1 - Makes Me Wanna Die (by The Pretty Reckless)

The Summer Before

The brown haired quiet girl sat at her desk drawing a picture. Family was over and she preferred to stay in her room rather than be with a crowd of people regardless if they were relatives or not. The whole event was planned specifically for her aunt who had just got a new fiancée. His name was Randall and apparently he was gorgeous and wealthy, a real winner. Her entire family was happy for her and they wanted to plan an event in celebration of her new engagement. There was a knock on the door. “Imogen, come down and meet Aunt Belle’s fiancée!” her mom told her in a calm voice.

“Yes mom in a minute.” Imogen said a whisper of a voice. She continued shading the picture of the girl she drew.

“What’s that honey?” Her mom came into the room. “Really dear you should learn to speak loudly and use your words.”

“Yes ma’am.” Imogen bit her lip and continued to finish the picture. “I’ll be down in a minute.”

Her mom scoffed. “Seriously Imogen!” she snatched the picture. “You’d rather draw some dumb picture than talk to the people who love you?! Come down now! And fix yourself up you look a mess. We want to impress Randall not make him think lowly of us. Do you hear me?” Imogen nodded her head. “Good, I want you down in 5 minutes. Put on your nice purple sundress…and for God sakes SIMLE! Stop frowning all the time it makes you ugly.” Her mom pushed some of Imogen’s hair out the way. “And this family does not raise ugly daughters.” She walked out the room closing the door. Imogen sighed and walked to her messy closet looking for her purple sundress. After she found it she put on and let her hair down letting the long brown hair glaze her shoulders. Looking in the mirror she put on a little lip gloss and proceeded down the stairs.

“Imogen! Is that you?” Her Aunt Belle walked over to her. “Imogen you look so beautiful!” Quietly Imogen responded with a thank you to her aunt. “I want you to meet Randall.” Aunt Belle pulled Randall over to meet her niece. The 6 foot man overpowered the 16 year old girl with his brown hair and grey suit.

“So you’re Imogen eh?” he asked holding his hand out. “Well…aren’t you beautiful?” Imogen blushed extending her hand. He held it up and kissed it. “So what do you like to do?”

Imogen looked around at all the people. “I like to draw and write sometimes…” she kept her eyes down as he talked to her.

“Really? I’d love to see some of your pictures and read your stories sometime.” He smiled at her looking her body up and down multiple times.

“Oh would you?! That’s great she has some in her room! Maybe you could publish her! That’d be so lovely!” Her mother walked over grasping Imogen’s shoulders.

“Well if miss Imogen doesn’t mind.” He turned to the girl. “I could go read them now in her room away from all the noise.”

Imogen noticed the man staring at her and felt uncomfortable. “Um…well…”

“Imogen would love to! She doesn’t mind! Her room is upstairs third door to the right.” Randall nodded his head and proceeded up the stairs. Imogen followed after before her mom grabbed her. “Do not ruin this with your uncanny behavior. Be obedient and do what he says, he’s very rich and you know our family is struggling with money at the moment. Plus you know Aunt Belle rarely gets a man. She’ll do anything to keep him. Now go! The rich does not like to be kept waiting.” Her mother glared at her walk up the stairs and then walked to finish conversing with the family.
