Chapter 2 - Crazy (Gnarles Barkley)

Imogen woke up in a daze. Looking around the white room all she heard was a faint beeping noise. Is this heaven? She wondered looking a bit discouraged that heaven would look so drab. She looked down at the bed she lied in. Her light blue-ish gown could be seen through the white sheets that lay on top of her if you paid close attention to detail. She glanced over at her wrist noticing the bandage. When did that get there? She wondered not being able to fully remember bandaging her wrist let alone slitting it. She clinched her tummy feeling a little bit of pain hit it as she let out a little groan. Her parents popped up at the sound of their daughter. "Oh thank goodness!" her mom shrieked giving her a hug. "We were so worried Imogen. Don't scare us like that again!" her mom’s calm voice quickly turned into the nagging shrill voice Imogen had come to recognize. She simply nodded her head and looked down. "Well...guess I have to wake the family up...again...at 5am because of you Imogen. They won't be pleased...but I guess they'll get over it since you're alive." she shrugged walking out the room.

Imogen looked at her dad who sat on her bed rubbing his temples. "Dad? Are you ok?"

He sighed. "Just...curious on where I and your mother went wrong." he turned to her. "Why? Why did you try to do it? I read about this online, is someone bullying you? Do we have to call the police?"

"No dad no...I had a really bad tummy ache so I thought it'd help." she hoped the pills she took matched the symptom.

"The pills you took were for migraines Imogen. Try again."

"Uh...did I say tummy ache? I meant headache...killer headache...owie?" she smiled at her dad whose face stayed serious.

"You’re making a joke out of this?" Imogen looked down pushing her hair back. "You tried to kill yourself and you find this funny?" Imogen began trying to explain herself but her father continued to talk over her. "How do you think this family would feel? Did you think about us? We've done nothing to hurt you and you go and do this to us?! You couldn't be like normal teens and steal the car no you have to try and overdose?! Did you ever think of the consequences? Your mom and I would have been questioned and blamed! Maybe if--"

"DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE ABOUT YOU?! Gah you and mom are the most selfish piece of craps I've ever met! I try and kill myself and instead you're worried about being questioned and mom is worried about disrupting the family!" Imogen screamed loud enough for the people in the hall to hear.

"This isn't about you." her father clenched his teeth going to close the door. "You're so ungrateful we put a roof over your head and feed you and instead you try to look on the negatives."

"If you were going to be so mad at me for attempting suicide maybe you should have let me go through with It." she crossed her arms hostility heard in her voice for the first time.

He sighed. "Because I didn't want to take the risk." he said simply walking to the sofa.

Imogen laughed "Risk? Which risk? The risk of losing your daughter or the risk of our family losing our 'happy loving' reputation?" she looked at him an evil smirk on her face.

"I don't need to be questioned by my crazy daughter."

"And I don't need to be here!" she said getting up to leave. He quickly walked over gently pushing her down.

"You're on suicide watch meaning you're not leaving for 48 hours. Now I'm going to go get a coffee and I'll bring you milk.

"I don't want any..."she whispered slinking back down into her bed getting comfortable. Her dad nodded and waited for her mom to return before leaving.
