The next day was the day of school, and Johnny was instantly regretting how late he'd stayed up last night.
He and his buddies were getting ready to walk into school, when, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed something dash past him and his friends.
He looked up to see the brown-haired kid walking quickly the other way, and instantly he was hit with a pang of regret. His hand flew up to where his eye was still sore.
"Of course. I just had to make the cute guy afraid of me. Great job Johnny."
He finally tuned back in when Dutch nudged him, giving him a look of genuine concern.
"You all right man?" he asked.
"Yeah. Totally. Let's do this." Johnny replied, giving him a reassuring smile and nod.
Dutch gave him a look that said he wasn't totally convinced but that he wouldn't push the issue.
Johnny took a deep breath and walked into school.
He couldn't fully concentrate for the rest of the day.
