"Lift the anchor! Hoist the sails! The Great Ship Monokuma sets its course once again for the fabled Dangan Island!"

As every great pirate knows, Dangan Island holds a great treasure, greater than anyone could ever put into words. Civilians from all across the world set sail in hopes of reaching this destination, which is said to only appear to the most worthy. Captain Makoto, of course, stands triumphantly at the bow of the ship, pointing at some unidentified destination and shouting orders to the crew, who is just waking up.

"Captain, it's barely 5:00 am." Kazuichi yawns and places his hand on the cabin door, trying to maintain his balance. "Do we really have to wake up this early every morning?"

Ibuki comes swinging in on a rope from the sail, which startles Kazuichi and he falls over. "C'mon, Kazu, don't be such a killjoy! It's a new day! We've got ourselves an island to find!"

Hajime steps out of his cabin as Kazuichi rubs his head on the ground. "We certainly don't have forever to find the place; even a small clue will get us one step a head of the game."

Nagito follows right after, stretching out his arms and taking it the fresh morning air. "It sure is nice out today!"

Hiyoko slumps out through the door and slaps Nagito from behind. "It's still dark out, you idiot." Nagito rubs the back of his neck and gives a nervous laugh.

Then Mahiru, standing close behind, scolds Hiyoko. "Try to calm down, Hiyo. We gotta get along with everyone, remember?"

Hiyoko folds her arms and frowns. "Fine, big sis."

"At least there's SOMEONE she listens to," Kazuichi mutters under his breath, finally standing up from the ground.

Chiaki climbs down from the ship's lookout, which she, of course, fell asleep in. Rubbing her eyes, she says, "Hey, guys. Isn't it still night time?" She yawns. "I'm sleepy."

Nagito, turning the conversation back to his previous statement, says, "Just because it's dark out doesn't mean I can't enjoy this fresh ocean air. And look, the sun's starting to come out."

Almost as if on cue, just as Nagito finishes speaking, the rest of the crew begins filing out of various places throughout the ship.

Oh, right. I should probably introduce everyone. Makoto Naegi is the captain of the Great Ship Monokuma, and along with his co-captain Hajime Hinata, they gathered together the best of the best from around the globe to join their crew, thus forming the Hope's Peak Pirates.

The first crew member, Nagito Komaeda, because of his abnormally good luck, was dubbed the crew's Luckster, in charge of keeping them in safe waters.

The rest of the crew has more assorted talents, but ones that are more easily explained than Nagito's. Chiaki Nanami, the Gamer; Kazuichi Souda, the Mechanic; Teruteru Hanamura, the Chef; Mikan Tsumiki, the Nurse; Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu, the Gang Leader; Peko Pekoyama, the Swordswoman; Ibuki Mioda, the Musician; Hiyoko Saionji, the Dancer; Mahiru Koizumi, the Photographer; Gundham Tanaka, the Animal Expert; Sonia Nevermind, the Ruler; Akane Owari, the Gymnast; Nekomaru Nidai, the Team Leader; and an unnamed imposter, capable of taking on any identity.

Wow that was a long list. But let's get back to the story, shall we?

Makoto gains everyone's attention. "Alright. I say it's about time we gather ourselves and prepare for another day of adventure!"

Nekomaru lets out a chuckle. "In high spirits as always, Captain! I admire that about you!"

Makoto wrinkles his nose at the Team Leader's statement. "What do I keep telling you guys? Just call me Makoto! 'Captain' sounds way too formal."

Nagito raises his hand. "Um... Makoto? I have a question."

"Ask away."

"Where, exactly, are we headed today?"

Fuyuhiko steps forward. "He's got a valid point, y'know. We kinda just wander around every day without any sort of hint as to where our destination is."

Peko follows up. "That certainly is a problem."

Akane crosses her arms. "Yeah, what's up with that, Cap'n? When you think about it, aren't we just gettin' nowhere?"

With a hint of frustration in his voice, Makoto replies, "Like I said, call me Makoto." He immediately, almost creepily, lightens up again. "But anyways, on the contrary. We haven't gotten nowhere. Our destination is wherever the wind takes us; you never know where we might find some sort of clue."

"The wind does not seem to be the most intelligent deciding factor of our journey." Gundham huffs. "I believe we should at the very least attempt to come up with a more thought-through plan of action."

Sonia speaks up. "I agree as well. I apologize, Captain Makoto, but I believe we should put a bit more thought to our intended course of action."

Kazuichi mumbles under his breath in frustration. "Yeah, you agree with everything that guy says."

Makoto sighs. "Alright, whatever you say. Well, any ideas?"

"You're the captain, shouldn't you have at least something?" Teruteru asks.

Hajime raises his hand. "Actually, I have something."

Gundham raises an eyebrow. "Do tell."

Hajime takes a deep breath. "I say we rely on Nagito's luck."

Everyone collectively 'EH?!'s and Nagito almost falls backward. "M-Me? What could I possibly do?"

"What kind of a plan is that? That's basically what we were already doing!" Fuyuhiko folds his arms.

Hajime gestures to Nagito. "Look. He's gotten us this far. We haven't had a single bad accident thanks to him."

"Yeah, but we need somethin' different! We're barely any closer to finding the island, let alone the treasure!" Akane replies.

"This will be different. I believe if we all put our hope in him, his luck will grow stronger." Nagito blushes a bit at Hajime's statement.

Hiyoko retorts. "What kind of a stupid philosophy is that?!"

"I say we give it a shot!" Makoto enthusiastically responds.

"B-But Captain..." Mikan tries to argue, before getting cut off again.

"Makoto. And besides, Hajime's right. We're the Hope's Peak Pirates for God's sake, but we certainly aren't at hope's peak now. You gotta dream a little harder!"

The imposter finally speaks up. "Listen to the captain. He's gathered us together, the world's elite, to create the strongest crew he could. We are perfectly capable of rising in power, as long as we agree to work as a unit. And Nagito, you are one of us. I have complete faith in your ability."

Nagito begins to tear up. "Th-thank you guys."

Ibuki grins and pats Nagito on the back. "Hey don't cry, Nagi! We all got your back!"

Kazuichi smiles. "Like the dude said, we're a team!"

Hajime grabs Nagito's hand. "And together, we can accomplish anything!"

"Three cheers for Nagito!" Chiaki exclaims.

"HURRAH!"

"Three cheers for Hajime!" Nagito adds.

"HURRAH!"

Hajime puts a hand on Makoto's shoulder. "And three cheers for the captain, who brought us all together!"

"CAPTAIN! CAPTAIN! CAPTAIN!"

"Mako- y'know what, I'm not even trying anymore."
