Chapter 16
I slipped into the house soundlessly. Unfortunately, I was caught. "Laura."
I continued walking as if I didn't hear my name being called.
"Laura! come over here please," Bryan uttered.
I stopped as I reached the stairs, sighed and swiveled around to face Bryan. "I'm sorry."
His hands fell onto my shoulders, "Laura, I keep giving you a whole lot of chances. I'm trying here and you aren't putting in any effort. I really don't want to involve Dianne."
He was speaking to me in a tone so unfamiliar- it was almost disturbing. His hands slid gradually down my arms. His voice became soft. "I can take care of you. We can cover this all up; so simply. It's all up to you. It all depends if you're willing." His eyes read concupiscence.
He began caressing my arms until he reached my hands- then to my waist. I felt severely uncomfortable. "Stop! What the hell are you attempting?" I whispered harshly.
He began laughing, "Laura, Dianne doesn't have to know. This will be our little secret and I promise you that you will enjoy it."
I immediately felt ill to my stomach, "God, enough, Landon. I'm not interested. I don't want anything to do with you. How can you be so sick?"
He pushed me against the wall with great force and began kissing my neck roughly and repeatedly, "I just love that about you. Your fiest drives me insane. It makes me want to take control."
A wave of anxiety fell over me. I began panicking, hyperventilating. "Get off. Landon, please! Get off me! Get the fuck off of me!"
He continued fondling my body with his hands and kissing me. Fight over Flight took over and I pushed him off and began running upstair.
Once I reached my room, I locked the door and fell to the floor. I was breathing heavily. I took my phone from my pocket and searched for Ross' number. I felt as though time was running out. My hands shook, making it difficult for me to use the phone. Finally, his number dialed and I waited for Ross' answer.
"Hey, baby. What's up?"
I couldn't speak. It was as if I was frozen.
"Laur? you there?"
Out of nowhere, words flew out of my mouth. "Ross, I'm so scared. It was unreal. I- I felt so trapped."
"Laura, what the hell did they do to you?!" he shouted into the phone.
I looked at my hands. The shaking was uncontrollable. Everything felt uncontrollable. "I'm having an- uh- an anxiety attack. Please come here. I'll have my bedroom window open. Hurry, Ross."
"Of course, I'm already headed over. Stay on the line-"
It was too late. I had already hung up. I hid my head in between my knees, sobbing harshly.
I heard Ross' heavy breathing as he climbed through my window and into my room. He hurried towards me, touching my shoulders.
I lifted my head up and moved myself quickly back until I was against the wall.
"Laura, speak to me. Everything is okay. I'm here now," he muttered softly in a concerned tone.
I looked at him. Suddenly, I felt used, ashamed. Nothing felt right. "I- uh I'm not sure how to even say it. It makes me feel sick."
He held my face gently, "This is me you are talking to. You can trust me."
I shot up from the ground and paced around the room, grabbing objects to damage. Suddenly, I was throwing antiques at the wall. "I can't trust anyone! They are all bastards! That son of a bitch- so help me, God, if I don't get out of this house I'm going to kill him myself!"Ross followed me, "Laura, please. Stop, talk to me."
"I am talking to you, Ross! You aren't listening! Landon, my foster parent was about to rape me! I was so weak. I felt completely stuck. If I hadn't pushed him off- Oh, God. I'd rather be gone. I can't handle this. I'd choose death over this shit. One thing is being smacked around, but to touch me like that. I just feel so sick." I was panting.
Ross took me in his arms, "No- don't say that. I'm not going to let them win like that! This is over. I'm ending this now!" Ross let me go and pushed my bedroom door open.
"Where are you going?" I asked wearily, yet ancy.
He turned and glanced at me before leaving my room.
"Ross- don't! I got this."
"Laura, there is absolutely nothing you can say to change my mind. Once a person lays their hands on you in the slightest way, they are on my list. I'm going to make this motherfucker regret it!"
I felt terror. Ross was about to risk everything, including us. I ran downstairs and there he was beating the living hell out of Landon.
