"Maybe we should talk about this in my office?" Brad intervened as he noticed me starting to freak out, pointing to the door at the end of the hall.
I nodded and knelt down in front of Sophia. "Why don't you go to the game room and play with some of the other kids?" I smiled.
She nodded cutely and skipped off down the hall. When she was halfway down the hall she paused and skipped back again. "Where is the game room?"
I chuckled and turned to Brad giving him a questioning look. "Walk to the end of this hall and take two lefts and it should be at the end" he smiled.
She nodded again and skipped off.
When Sophia had disappeared I let out a long aggitated sigh and followed Brad into his office and we took a seat. Well, Dad and Brad did. I however, was pacing back and forth trying to figure out what was going on. It was all rather confusing and I had a lot of questions that needed answers.
"So why did you leave us?" I asked, pacing one way, fiddling with a pen I grabbed from Brads desk. I needed to fiddle with something to concentrate. I was a very fidgety person and judging by how Dad was bouncing his leg nervously I got it from him.
"Winter-" Dad tried to talk but I spoke over him.
"Did you choose this pack over me and mom?" I asked, pacing the other way.
"No! Of course not! Winter-" I cut him off again.
"Oh my. Am I one too?!" I screeched and stopped, dropping the pen.
Dad stood up and put his hands on my shoulders, levelling his face with mine. "Calm down sweetie. You're being dramatic. One question at a time"
"Sit down. Both of you and stop being over dramatic Winter" Brad sighed, giving me a pointed look.
I pouted like a scolded five year old but sat down anyway.
"Am I one?" I asked impatiently
"It's very unlikely that you will shift but you may gain some of the qualities when you and Brad mate" Dad explained.
I blushed at that. I really didn't want to talk about that with my father.
I nodded and relaxed slightly. "Why did you leave?"
He sighed. "You were both in danger. Our pack had to move because of a rise in rouges in California. You and your mother couldn't come with us because the elders would kill you. That's why I disappeared. I was trying to protect you both"
" Why would the elders kill us?" I frowned.
"The elders didn't agree with human mates" Brad explained.
My eyes widened. "But I'm human!" I cried. "So they'll kill me?!"
Brad shook his head. "No. They won't. They died a while ago and the elders now don't really care. They have seen a lot of werewolves with human mates so they are kind of used to it."
"I'm sorry sweetie. I really was trying to protect you" Dad sighed.
"I know" I sighed. "But it just made things worse."
"What do you mean?" He frowned
"Mom neglected me when you left. She went out drinking, taking and selling drugs and was often off her face. I had to do the house work and learn how to cook by the time I was ten. When I was eleven she met another guy. I hated him from the day they first stumbled in drunk. Everything went by the same until i was twelve. One night they came home drunk and he hit me. Mom didn't stop him. She actually laughed. Soon enough she joined in too. It went on for years and I only just got away with my life last week thanks to Brad saving me. They were planning to sell me and he was going to kill me because I told my friends what was happening. I knew I shouldn't have told anyone and I was stupid for it but I just couldn't cope with it." I explained, I hadn't realised I was crying until Brad pushed a box of tissues towards me and grabbed my hand. I sent him a thankful smile.
