The number of universes surrounding us is infinite, just slight variations in each and every one and they're constantly changing. You could be lying in a bed with white sheets while in a parallel universe, the sheets may be blue but the concept is still the same. The differences are endless and trying to think of all the possibilities will make your brain explode. Regardless, whether or not, if you believe in the idea of parallel universes, we all crave different realities and constantly ask ourselves the question "what if?".These are the thoughts that constantly plague Isak's mind. Sometimes, it even keeps him up at night among various other thoughts. The mind is a dangerous place and he tries to avoid it as much as possible but its inevitable for his mind to take control. One of those nights is happening again and Isak has not gotten a wink of sleep. He's lying on his back, eyes wide open, trying to shut his mind off. He's tried everything to fall asleep from counting sheep and counting backwards to watching some Narcos and nothing has helped. At this point, Isak has given up on all hope of getting a good night's sleep and is just wishing for any form of rest so he's not a dead man walking on the first day back to school.
Sadly, his wish isn't granted and before he knows it, its the morning and he has to get up. Isak groans as he gets out of bed, ruffling his blonde hair and wipes the sleeplessness from his eyes. The journey to the bathroom is a short one but not without almost stumbling over his roommate Noora, who's laying on a mattress in the hallway because his other roommate Eskild has company again. He turns the shower on and strips his clothes off, getting in the shower. The water cascades down his body, the warmth waking him up a little. Soap and shampoo are applied, cleaning him of his restless night. Isak turns off the water and gets out the shower, while wrapping a towel around his waist.
He walks back into his bedroom and searches for an outfit to wear. It consists of black jeans, a beige sweater, a red beanie, grey jacket and white shoes. Isak looks in the mirror and deems it acceptable. He checks his phone and see that he has several text messages from his best friend, Jonas.
From Jonas: "Hey, wanna meet up before school?' "I'll bring food" "Fine, no food for you!"
Isak smiles reading his texts, glad that he has a friend like Jonas.
Isak: "Yeah, we can meet up before school. You better not have eaten all the food, you little shit."
Jonas: "I may have or may not have, you'll have to find out. See you in ten!"
Isak: "Okay, see you in ten."
Isak pockets his phone and heads out the door. The walk to school isn't long, perks of living near the school. There's not many people in the courtyard because it's early in the morning. Isak notices a guy sitting by himself near the benches, smoking a joint. His hair, a light brown, brushed back as if he was trying to copy Elvis Presley. He looks deep in thought with a frown on his nearly flawless face. He takes a drag but not without noticing that he's being watched. His eyes meet Isak's smiling, causing him to look away. Isak feels the blush rising in his cheeks and walks away, not wanting him to see his reaction. He spots Jonas by the front door with a paper bag in hand and heads over to him.
"Hey" Isak greets him, giving him a high five.
"Hey, here's the food that you were promised." Jonas replies and hands him the bag that he was holding. Isak looks inside of it and see that its filled with donut holes covered in chocolate and sprinkles, his favourite. He pulls one out and pops it in his mouth, relishing in the taste and its warmth.
"Thanks, they're delicious." Isak tells him with a smile and Jonas starts laughing because he sees that Isak has chocolate all over his teeth.
"Bro, you've got chocolate all up in your teeth." Isak laughs and licks the chocolate off his teeth, cleaning them.
"So, how have you been?" Jonas asks him, noticing how tired Isak looks.
"I'm good, just tired. Didn't get much sleep last night."
"How come?"
"Couldn't get my mind to shut off." Isak tells him, yawning a little.
"Are you going to be able to make it through the day?"
"Yeah, I'll be okay, just wake me up if you happen to see me dozing off." The bell rings, signaling the beginning of school and Isak and Jonas head to their first class. The day goes by slowly, feeling like an eternity in Isak's mind. Lunch eventually roll around and Isak heads to the cafeteria, meeting up with Jonas and his other friends, Magnus and Mahdi, on the way. They all grab some food and sit down at a table in the corner of the room.
"So, how was everyone's breaks?" Magnus asks while popping a grape into his mouth.
"Good, played a lot of video games." Mahdi responds.
"Same here, not a lot happened over the break." Jonas replies.
"What about you, Isak?" Magnus asks him.
"Eh, nothing special." Isak answers, shrugging his shoulders. He begins to drown out the conversation around him, his thoughts rampant. He looks across the cafeteria and notices the guy he saw earlier before school, talking to some girl. His smile lighting up the room as he laughs at the something the girl says. "Wait, why am I thinking this?" I'm not attracted to guys." "He looks so cute though." "Stop that!" The thoughts running around his head causes Isak to not notice the guy looking at him from across the room. Isak notices after a couple of seconds and looks away. Jonas notices that Isak looks out of it and nudges his arm, silently asking him if he's alright. Isak nods, smiling a little, letting him know that everything's okay.
The day continues without any problems and Isak heads to his locker but he bumps into something hard, almost knocking him over. He looks up and his eyes capture the image before him, his eyes being bluer than the ocean and small smile creeping up on his face.
"Hi"
