"Dipper. . .I'm scared," Mabel whispered, her small fingers clutching the smooth stone she wore tied to a ribbon around her neck, her other hand was tightly gripping her twin brother's.

Dipper gently squeezed her hand. "Pretend like it's just you and me, like we practiced."

Mabel swallowed hard and nodded stiffly, slipping the stone back into the neck of her blue dress.

It was their very first show. Never had they displayed their supernatural abilities in front of the townspeople before. The twins shared feelings of anxiety.

Dipper finally let go of her hand as the music began to play and the curtains parted. The stage lights blinded Mabel at first, but after she blinked a few times, she could  clearly see their audience, which was small. There had to be only about five people sitting in the benches; a mom and her son, two teenage boys, and a middle aged man.

"Ha! They're just kids! What're they gonna do? Pull a bunny out of a hat?" Mabel could hear one of the teenagers snicker. Although he kept his voice below a whisper, her powers seemed to amplify his voice in her ears, mocking her and her brother.

Mabel's eyes began to sting and a lump grew in her throat. The ground seemed to sway beneath her feet, she tried to grasp her brother's shoulder to steady herself.

"I can't- I can't do this."

Dipper grabbed her by the shoulders. "Yes you can. You don't have to look at them, look at me. I know you can do this."

Mabel nodded and closed her eyes, remembering to do as she had taught herself. It was like trying to reach for a rope in the dark, she needed to grab hold in order to guide her powers. When she opened her eyes she felt hydrinaline pumping through her veins, her panicked dizziness was replaced with a feeling of weightlessness.

Dipper himself was also experiencing this feeling. Both twins' eyes were now glowing a greenish blue instead of their usual plain brown.

"Ready?" Dipper said breathlessly.

Mabel nodded, an excited smile growing on her face.

Just like they rehearsed, Mabel counted to three in her head before throwing her hands in the air, sending sparks of light shooting across the room, then seeming to splatter on the ceiling and growing into a galaxy full of stars. Dipper swept his hand across the room, causing their audience to float up out of their seats and into the air.

The looks of boredom had disappeared from everyone's faces. The mom now looked surprised as she watched her toddler giggle and perform little twirls and cartweels in mid air, the teenage boys looked stunned and panicked while they tried to grab hold of their seats to avoid getting stuck on the ceiling, and the man looked just as excited as the toddler.

"It worked!" Mabel gasped, watching her fireworks burst in front of her.

Dipper wrapped his arm around her shoulder and smiled. "See? I knew you could do it!"

"Freaks!" one of the teenagers screamed.

Mabel's amulet began to flicker like a broken lightbulb as her heart sank.

"What a freak show! I want out of here!"

Mabel's eyes stung and tears threatened to fall as she reached a shaking hand to her amulet , trying to keep herself calm.

"Yeah, let us go, weirdos!"

"They probably can't understand us, they don't speak human."

"SHUT UP!" Mabel screamed, hot tears trailing down her face. Her amulet flashed like a bolt of lightening. The purplish blue galaxy turned an icy shade of electric bluish green and all of the lights began to flicker wildly.

"STOP CALLING US NAMES!"

Various objects such as merchandise, fair-themes food and chairs began swirling around the room.

When Mabel saw what was happening, she gasped and uncurled her fists, gaping at the mess she had made. Everything fell to the ground and their amulets deactivated.

"Mabel, are you okay?" Dipper said quietly, reaching out to his sister. Mabel shrugged his hand off, hot tears streaming down her cheeks and dripping from her chin.

"Leave me alone!"

"What's wrong?"

"I'm a monster!" Mabel cried out before fleeing down the short flight of stairs and out of the tent. Dipper screamed her name and ran after her, knocking over a stack of flyers in their wake. A poster fluttered to the dust-covered floor, a poster that read;
