"Come on, this way!" Pacifica directed Gideon through the thick woods. The further they walked, the darker their surroundings became. The trees grew more clustered, casting shadows over the forest floor.

"We've been walking forever! When're we gonna get there?" Gideon complained.

"Just a while longer."

"You've said that five times already."

Pacifica laughed. "You're just grumpy cause you've already walked off those pancakes from this morning." She stopped, took off her backpack and rummaged around until she found two candy bars.

"Wouldn't granola bars be more. . . practical?" Gideon asked without refusing to take one.

Pacifica shrugged. "Yeah, but candy tastes better." She sat down and motioned for Gideon to sit next to her, and he did so.

"I never got around to asking how long you've been in town." Pacifica crossed her legs and took another bite of chocolate while she waited for his answer.

Gideon pretended to be fascinated in the process of unwrapping his candy bar while he talked. "I just got here yesterday afternoon. I haven't gotten around to doing anything since my dad's been busy at work."

Pacifica nodded and swallowed.

"What does he do?"

"I just found out that he works as a pianist for the Telepathy Twins' performances."

Pacifica gasped and suddenly leaned forward so she was nose to nose with him.

"NO. WAY."

Gideon gulped and slowly shuffled away from her suddenly intense gaze. "Um, yeah."

"Do you know how many shows you could get into for free!?" She fell back onto the nettle-covered ground and sighed. "Gosh, I'd kill for a ticket to see a show."

"What's the big deal about the Pines twins?" Gideon asked in an annoyed tone followed by rolling his icy blue eyes.

"This is the first time they've faced the public since this so-called freak accident at their last show, which was five years ago. They're parents died when they were just kids, so they were raised by their great uncle. I've heard he's SUPER strict and paranoid so he keeps them locked up in the attic."

Gideon's jaw fell open. "Seriously? Where did you hear all of this?"

"I've heard things around town. I talk to people," Pacifica replied with a casual flip of her hair. She had a proud look on her face knowing that she was the most out-going, popular person in town.

"That's insane. I can't imagine living like that, locked up in the same house all those years. . ."

Pacifica giggled. "Don't take it too seriously, those are just the rumors. Heck, I'm not even sure if the twins actually exist. Maybe all of it's an urban legend."

Gideon finished off his chocolate, relishing the taste a few seconds before swallowing the last bite. Now his curiosity had gone haywire. He had to get more information. Pacifica had obviously spilled any and all information she had, but where to turn to next?
