Chapter 4

*Emily*

I grudgingly let him go, smiling on the inside as well as the out when he turned around and simply grinned at me before closing the door.

I was in love with Mason. Again? Yes, I was falling in love with Mason all over again. He was amazing, he always has been. I've always known it, I just never came to my senses soon enough. But this felt like a different kind of love, more serious. When we were kids, it was fun and playful, and it certainly didn't feel serious compared to how it does now. I have to be careful, Mason is hurt and vulnerable; I could lose him if I'm not cautious.

I went to bed that night seeing stars. I never thought I'd feel this way again, and I honestly never thought I'd find this new meaning to love. We were both adults now, and indeed it was clearly meaningful. I couldn't sleep; my dreams were vivid of the wedding Mason and I always dreamed of. I woke up realizing I couldn't go back to those teenage years of fantasizing; back then my hopes were as childish. I had to think rationally and seriously.

It hurt to know I'd never have my childish dreams of a wedding come true. But I was doing everything in my power not to go back in time, we had to start over. And who said we were getting married? Here I go again, getting way too ahead of myself.

*Mason*

I was in love with Emily. I always have been. I never fell out of love with her; I've always been searching to be with her again, and I finally found her. It feels different this time, however. For one, we're not kids anymore. We are adults and it's much more serious. But I still love her all the same. I love her the way I did as a teenager, only much stronger. I know she probably doesn't want to remember that time, but it was when we were most happy. I don't want to have to give up my hopes and dreams, even if they were childish. I know we could make it work again. I do know I have to be careful though, she's different now. More serious. We've both changed, but losing her is not even the tiniest thought in my mind.

I fell asleep and woke up in what seemed like only ten minutes, but it was the usual eight hours. After remembering it was the weekend and we have work off, I wanted to do something with Emily today. I wanted to spend as much time as I possibly could with her.

I hopped out of bed and ran straight to the phone. I received Emily's number in the midst of our conversation last night. I took it out of the pocket of the jeans I was still wearing from the day before and quickly dialed, not caring how early in the morning it was.

The ringing was killing me. Pick up, pick up, pick up!

Finally there was a click, and the sound of Emily's groggy voice. I must've woken her up. "Hello?" she asked quietly.

"Hey, sweetheart, it's me, Mason. Good morning,"

She laughed. "Good morning. I could get used to you waking me up like this,"

"I woke you up? Emily I'm sorry, I should've waited longer," I hung my head with shame.

"No, no Mason it's completely fine. I couldn't sleep anyway," she reassured me. "I could wake up to you any day,"

"Really? I must have my old Emily back, that's definitely something she would say," I smiled.

I could hear Emily shifting uncomfortably on the phone. "Um, I'm sorry, should I not have said that?"

"No, I'm glad you did! I feel the same way, it made me happy that you said that," I reassured her.

"Okay, if you're happy then I am too. So what urged you to call me so early?" I could hear the smile in her teasing voice.

"Well, I have this boat that's been unoccupied for the longest time. I think she's sad--"

Emily giggled. "She?"

"My boat," I clarified.

Emily couldn't stop laughing. "Mason I've never met anyone in person who's managed to gender-ize their boat. I thought they only did that in movies to be funny!"

"The 'it' you're referring to is a she, and I am very fond of her. I won't continue my request until you quit making fun of us,"

This put Emily into hysterics. "Us?!"

I was getting annoyed now, but it was cute that she thought it was funny. I couldn't stay bothered by her. I got straight to the point. "Emily, I would like to take you out on my boat today. Is that okay with you?"

Emily calmed down a bit. "Okay, yeah sure, let me get dressed and eat real quick,"

"Alright, I'll pick you up around seven-thirty? Oh and dress for warm weather, it's supposed to be hot today out on the water. My boat doesn't have the best air conditioning,"

"You mean SHE doesn't?" This put Emily back into her pit of hysterics.

"Goodbye, Emily." I ended the call. Wow, she sure is a handful. But it reminds me of when we were kids. Laughing that beautiful laugh at everything I had to say. It was just Emily.

*Emily*

I was laughing so hard I didn't know that the call ended. Oh, my Mason. He really hasn't changed at all. I smiled to myself.

Wait, I thought we both changed? He still has that kid-like way about him, my Mason since....well...forever. That's the only way I can remember him, and I loved that about him. Maybe he really hasn't changed. But have I? I hope I'm not too serious for him now.

I pushed the thought out of my mind and told myself to enjoy this day just the way it is. I'm going to be myself, and see how he takes it. Maybe tomorrow I'll ask him to hang out, and it'll be a serious date. Then I'll decide which side he wants to see.

I quickly pulled on my easy-outfit: a blue and white striped tank top, red shorts, and yellow flip flops. I believe that looks like a boating outfit. Not that I've ever been boating, I really haven't, so I wouldn't know. But it looked nice.

I ate my cereal quickly and before I knew it, Mason was here to pick me up. The way he looked at me almost made me want to skip the date and go straight to the bedroom.

I had to admit I did look back; okay, I stared back. He had a laid-back look to him that made him sexy. His hair was messy, but still shaped him. His loose t-shirt (which was hard to believe was loose, because it stuck to him like glue, yet he still claimed it was loose), his tall frame in his board shorts, his tan skin. My mouth was watering.

*Mason*

She was breathtaking. She was beautiful and sexy at the same time. Her hair flowing in luscious curls down her back, her delicious tan skin showing itself off proudly. She looked like the sexy version of a sailor; she was my sailor. My boating queen.

I couldn't take my eyes off of her, she's really grown up elegantly. She clearly couldn't take her eyes off of me either.

I was the first to break the silence. "Shall we go?"

Emily snapped back to reality. "Yes, let's go!" she said excitedly.

I laughed and took her hand. This was going to be a fun day.
