A comfortable silence rested between Han and Leia as they looked up at the pillowy clouds and calm skies, their bodies entangled. Days like this didn't come around often—their responsibilities elsewhere often took over their lives most of the time—but today was different. Today was....good.
The princess rested her head on Han's chest, one hand holding onto his; while Han had an arm wrapped under her back and around her waist. They had been lying there for a better part of the day, as it was already noticeably afternoon, and they both tried to embrace every moment—who knew when they would get to do something like this again?
Han sighed. "We should come here more often."
"Heh, yeah; who knew random planets could be like this?" she responded, humor in her voice.
"Better than the chaos of Coruscant."
"Definitely—though Alderaan kind of got me used to that eccentric kind of life. Sometimes I miss it, sometimes I don't....but nothing can beat this." Leia said, her words slow and pensive.
"Agreed. Corellia was kind of similar, I guess—but I...." Han paused, lost for words. "well, I don't really like to think about it."
Leia inevitably felt bad for him. She knew that his past had been rather woeful until Chewie found him. Every time he merely mentioned something about it, vague or not, she could hear the sorrow in his voice. She tried to inch even closer (which was nearly impossible already) and held on as tight as she could—as if he would disappear if she let go.
"Don't worry about me, Leia."
The princess rolled her eyes. "That's a promise I can't make, and you know it."
"Fine, then," Han muttered quickly with a smirk. He suddenly shifted so that he was on top of her, causing them both to laugh—until Leia silenced them both by grabbing Han's shirt collar and pulling him down for a kiss.
Han was surprised at first, but he quickly caught on. He kissed her back more passionately, his body suddenly on fire. For a while, they kissed each other like it was the last time they ever would—before Han's lips trailed down to her neck. In that moment, Leia realized something.
"Wait, Han....not now," Leia said, pushing him away slightly.
He looked down at her, frowning. "Why?"
She, unlike him, was smiling. "I mean, I would do this any other time, really—but I want to take in what's here. We don't know the next time we'll be in a place like this, just the two of us, no distractions. I....I want to embrace it for what it is. I love you, Han. And....each time I spend with you makes me more and more thankful. So, uh, I guess what I'm trying to say is....."
"I know," Han whispered, his cheeks slightly red. "I really do."
He pecked Leia on the lips one last time, before positioning himself so he was sitting next to her. The smirk that was on his face a few minutes before had returned. "When we get back, then, sweetheart?"
Leia sighed jokingly. "Deal."
Han lied down on the grass, putting his hands behind his head. "I don't know how you manage to stay sane when you're with a scoundrel like me."
Leia shrugged, eying him playfully. "Well, you of all people should know how I feel about scoundrels."
He grinned. "I certainly do,"
