"Seriously, Shania, you've been acting crazier than usual." Cassie says from the backseat. "Where are we going?"
We've been driving down the interstate for a little over two hours heading north to San Olivos in the pitch black night of California. The morning had yet to touch the sky, but you could see the darkness become a shade of dark blue, allowing us to see shapes of road signs and other vehicles.
"Just wait." I grin in the rearview mirror. "You'll see."
Bridgett sleeps in the reclined passenger seat next to me and Dee and Cassie made their selves comfortable in the back row, snoring soundly. Macy sits in the middle row, by Cassie, with her face leaning against her seat belt; which will no doubt leave an imprint later on. And Dee's in the way back, resting her head on her rolled up sweater with her earbuds in.
"Damn, Shan, if it's making you this excited, I can't wait to see what it is." Cassie practically jumps up and down in her seat.
A few minutes later I turn, kicking up dust as I drive down a gravel road for about twenty miles, before I put the car in park and shut the engine off.
Bridgett jolts awake, along with Macy, and Cassie wakes up Dee.
"What, where are we?" Macy mumbles sleepily.
I get out of the car and shut the drivers door, staring in amazement at the gates infront of me.
Bridgett follows suit, and soon the rest of the girls are out of the car too.
It's silent as we stand back and take in the view.
The sun has begun to rise and in the grey morning light, the Neverland gates stand tall in front of us.
"Holy shit." Someone breathes.
"It's... it's Neverland." Dee gasps, walking forward.
Wordlessly, Macy lifts up her camera and snaps a picture, before putting it down again. Her mouth slightly agape.
I smile wordlessly at the sight before us. The gates I had only dreamed about being infront of where now there, just a few steps away.
Dee turns to me with glossy eyes. "How did you -? Why are we -?" She smiles, shaking her head.
"Because Michaels here." I say surly.
Bridgett shakes her head. "You don't know that. Neverland has been condemned for so long -."
"He's always been here." I cut her off, looking up at the golden sign above the steel gates. "And he will always be here."
I begin walking towards it and the girls follow. The only sound being the gravel that crunches under our sneakers. Dee comes by me, still staring in awe.
"I can't believe this." She begins to tear up. "We're in Neverland. We're really here."
"I know." I grin back.
There's a giant padlock with a looped chain around the thick metal bars, something that I anticipated.
"Those are some heavy duty locks. We'll never get through those." Cassie mentions.
"We don't have to." Macy says hurriedly, running to a gargoyle by the side of the brick wall.
"Come on!" She yells as she climbs it.
We follow her, watching in surprise as she stands on top of it and clutches into the top of the wall.
"A little help?" She asks.
Cassie goes to help hoist her up the rest of the way. She crawls up until she's kneeling on top of the ten foot tall wall.
Dee's up next.
