Dan's Job In The Woods (A DanTDM fanfiction)

Chapter 8

Dan and Chris screamed when they fell through a hole in the ground of the cave they were hiding in. Luckily at the bottom of the hole was an underground pool. They made a loud splash that echoed off of the cave walls.

Dan emerges from underneath the water first. He looks around for Chris but doesn't see her. "Chris! Chris, answer me!" He yells out for her, the worrying feeling in his gut getting worse. Then he hears water being disturbed behind him and sees Chris emerging.

"You're alright, thank goodness," he swims towards her. Chris gasps for air and starts freaking out. "Dan I can't swim!" She panics as her head goes underneath the water. Dan reacts quickly and pull hers out.

"Put your arms around my neck so you don't go underneath the surface again," he says. Chris wraps her arms around his neck (or shoulders? Idk what word to use lol) and takes a good look at the underground pool.

"...How are we supposed to get out?" She finally says. "Hmm, good question..." Dan replies while looking around as well. "Aha!" He says while pointing underneath the surface of the water.

There was light coming out of a hole that was in the wall. "Do u think that's a way out? Cause I don't, in case you don't remember it's still nighttime so it's impossible that that light is from outside" Chris tells her companion. "True..." Dan sighs.

'I will not die of hypothermia, no, that is unacceptable' Dan mentally says. "Well can i still check it out? It might be dry land, I don't know," he says out loud. "I refuse to go down there, " Chris says rather loudly.

"I wasn't forcing you to," Dan replies back. "There, u can hold on to that rock that's sticking out of the wall to keep your face over the surface," Dan adds as he starts swimming towards one of the cave walls.

Chris hesitantly lets go of Dan. "Ok, imma dive down and take a look at the hole," Dan tells Chris once she had a firm hold onto the cave wall. She nods and tells him to be careful. Dan takes a deep breath and swims down towards the hole.

As he gets closer he feels something brush up against his leg. He turns around quickly but doesn't see anything, so he continues down. His lungs were aching but he pushed himself to swim a little closer.

When he was able to look inside he saw a wide cavity that had strange crystals glowing fiercely. But strangest of all, it was completely dry, even though the hole led straight into the cave, not going upwards or downwards.

He then floated back up to the surface and gasped for air. "I wasn't able to see much of what was in that hole but I did see that it was a cave," Dan finally said. Then he felt something brush against his leg again, only this time it dragged him under the water.

Jem and Jes hear heavy footsteps running towards them. Jessie pulls a flashlight out from beneath her coat and turns it on. She shines it to her right and screams.

An animatronic with half of it's right arm missing, only half of it's beak which was filled with sharp needle teeth and hungry glowing eyes was charging straight at them.

Jemma grabs Jessie's hand and runs blindly into the woods. "Are you crazy, Jemma?! We're practically committing suicide by running into the woods with that thing on our heels!" Jessie yells, her knees and thighs already aching.

"Then we gotta hope for the best now don't we?" Jemma replies while swerving to the right then turning sharply to the left. She lets go of Jessie's hand. She then picks up a large and heavy stick, and heaves it towards the animatronic.

The stick successfully hits it in the face, knocking it's beak off. It stops and stares at it's beak that was laying on the ground, eyes widening and body twitching with rage. That gave Jem and Jes an opportunity to escape. "Great, now you made it mad," Jessie says. "At least I bought us some time," Jemma replies while rolling her eyes.

Then she stops, Jessie running into to her. "What are you doing?!" Jessie asks while looking over her shoulder. "That th- oh... it's gone," she says while raising an eyebrow. Jemma bends down and picks up an iphone that had a cracked screen."What did u find?" Jessie says while shining her flashlight over the object in Jem's hand.

Jem turns the phone on and gets a few seconds to take a look at the wallpaper that was used for the lock screen before the phone's battery died. It was a picture of Dan and Jemma with a young Ellie between their smiling faces. Jemma gasps and instantly knew that phone belonged to her husband.

"He was here!" She tells her 'twin'. Jessie shines the light down to the ground. She then bends down and examines footprints that were pressed deep into the ground. "Do you recognise these, Jem?" She signals for Jemma to take a look at what she found.

"Yes, I do. They belong to his running shoes..." Jemma starts to follow the trail when she sees a much larger footprint with claws. "But these don't..." she says quietly as Jessie stops beside her. As Jessie was opening her mouth to say something, Jemma starts running in the direction the footprints were going.

Chris started screaming when Dan was dragged under water by something that refused to reveal itself. She was panicking, knowing whatever probably dragged Dan to his death probably had it's friends with it that were swimming beneath her feet.

"Dan?! Dan??!" Chris continues yelling his name. Then she sees something float to the surface near her. Not knowing what it was, Chris froze in fear. When it finally got to the surface, Chris saw that it was Dan.

But he was out of her reach, which meant if she wanted to retrieve him, she'd have to let go of the cave wall. Christine hesitated for a very long time, screaming everytime something brushed up against her. She finally let go and pushed herself off the wall towards Dan.

Chris realized she pushed a bit too hard and pummeled into Dan's unconscious body, sending them both towards the other side of the cave. Chris slammed into the wall and got a few cuts and bruises but was too worried about Dan to care about the pain.

Dan became paler every second. She placed her hands on Dan's face to warm him up the best she could. "Dan please, don't leave me..." she whispers, becoming quite cold herself. Chris looks at the illuminating hole.

'Dan said it was a cave, but he didn't say if it was dry... I might as well check...' Chris forces herself to let go of Dan, sucks in a deep breath and use her arms to push herself towards the hole.

When she was level with it, Chris took a look inside and stuck her hand in. To her surprise, it was completely dry. She floated back to the surface. Her hopes rose when she saw Dan was awake.

The color was slowly coming back to his face, but not completely. "I'm so glad you're ok!" Chris said while grabbing Dan's arm. "C'mon we gotta go through that hole before it's too late " she adds. Dan nods and takes a deep breath, then they both dive.

As Jem was following Dan's footprints, she stepped on something which rolled underneath her foot, making her fall face first to the ground. "Oww... jeez," she says after sitting up while rubbing her nose (lol my book is become lame already).

Apparently she stepped on a metal baseball bat. "What's that and are u ok?" Jessie asks as she finally catches up with Jemma. "It's a baseball bat,and I'm fine," Jemma replies. Jessie takes it and takes a look at it. "Still looks brand new," she says after awhile.

"Do you think it could've been Dan's?" Jemma asks after getting up and brushing herself off. "Why are you asking me?" Jessie raises an eyebrow. Jemma shrugs and continues following the trail of footprints. But then they start fading.

Jessie looks around and sees the same lonely shed Dan saw on his first day here. "Hey Jem, do you think he's in there?" She asks Ponting towards the shed. Jemma looks In the direction Jessie's finger was pointing.

"Well, maybe we should check it out?" She says while grabbing the metal bat. "I guess," Jes replies. Jemma nods and makes her way towards the shed, Jessie close by. When they were close enough to look into one of the windows, they saw another one of those animatronics, this one blue and faceless.
