i watched my mother from afar,
i didn't want to disturb the peace
she was surrounded by.

i wanted to hear her voice again,
not her silent sobs.

i tapped my fingers against the glass

she didn't even move.
i proceeded to knock again,
when all of a sudden:
mother stood up from her chair
and walked straight past me
