"Water slicer!" Juvia yelled, sending the powerful force ripping through the the opponent's magic and striking him in the chest.  Spluttering, he got up, battered and bruised from their long fight. The water mage sent another blast at him, this time knocking him out cold from the abrasive attack. She glanced at Gray, who was fighting the other enemy. Juvia could tell he was getting worn out. He had several big wounds on his chest, some of which were bleeding. His movements were languid as he barely dodged another one of the opponent's deadly blast.

The duo took on a mission of sneaking into the enemies fortress to spy on their plans. They almost made it until one of the guards were alerted of their presence and they ran, the enemy in pursuit.

And here they were, in the middle of the woods, battling the guards (who were stronger than they had expected).

Suddenly, a sharp pain tore through Juvia's body. She gasped, clutching her stomach as she whirled around in shock. Two other guards were standing there, pointing their weapons at her. She charged at them, sending out wave after wave of her magic, until she too could feel her energy being drained.

And then Juvia heard it. A cry of pain. She turned, and her eyes widened as she saw Gray's body jerk back forcefully before his neck snapped forward and he collapsed to the ground. In the distance, she heard a scream pierce through the air and she realized that it was her own. Completely forgetting about the enemies in front of her, she scampered over to where Gray was. Gasping, she saw a large hole in his chest, about the size of her fist. Juvia carefully scooped him up in her arms, tears threatening to spill from her azure eyes. Blood was pouring everywhere; on her hands, the dirt floor, and staining his white shirt. She could dimly hear the pounding footsteps of the enemy drawing nearer, but she didn't care.

"Gray-sama?" She whimpered, brushing a lock of onyx hair away from his face. His glassy eyes opened, staring up at her.

"J-J-Juvia...I'm not going to make it..." The ice mage whispered, his shaky hand reaching for a lock of her blue hair.

"Don't say that Gray-sama! J-Juvia will get help!" Even as she said that, the water mage knew that it was hopeless. They were in the middle of a forest, away from any signs of civilization.

"Please...just stay here," Gray said, his breathing labored. He cupped her small face in his hand. His thumb traced over her plump lips, her smooth cheeks, and slender jawline. She nodded, and a single tear escaped, rolling down her face. The ice mage brushed it away, a faint smile on his face as she leaned into his touch.

"Juvia is sorry, Gray-sama. She should have protected you more....She should have been a better friend...She is s-sorry Gray-" She was cut off when the ice mage put a finger over her lips.

"S-Shh...It's okay Juvia...You've been a wonderful friend...I-I'm sorry for brushing you off all these years...I wanted to know you more..."

The water mage sobbed into his shirt, and gently hugged him closer. She could feel the life being drained from him, and it scared her-no terrified her to know that she would be all alone. No Gray-sama to look forward to each day, no missions to go with him, no subtle blush on his face when she would greet him with a smile.

Feeling excruciating pain in her back, Juvia turned. The enemy had surrounded them, and were blasting their magic. How long had they been firing?

She threw her body over the ice mage, shielding him from the attacks. Juvia felt his hands gently caress her neck before his grip went slack. Shaking, she looked down. And Juvia knew. Gray Fullbuster was gone. His handsome face was peaceful as ever, and a faint smile was on his lips. He was naught but a mere carcass of the ice mage.

As uncontrollable rage and sorrow tore through the water mage's body, she let out a wail of agony. And  then she released the emotions within her. Columns of boiling hot water erupted one after another from the ground, exploding everything in its wake. The enemy were knocked off their feet, the strong current of the geyers washing them far away.

With her anger now gone, Juvia felt a throb of sadness overtake her body. Tears were streaming down her face as she glanced at the one person she loved so dearly. She hugged him to her chest, not caring if his blood was on her clothes, not caring if it was cold, she just wanted him to come back. But Juvia knew that he was gone. She watched as his blood dripped onto her hands, staining them a scarlet red.

So she sat there and cried. Her body shook and her breath came in heaves of pain. Juvia was dimly aware of something wet beneath her and when she looked down, she saw that her tears had created a small puddle. But the water mage didn't care. She would cry and ocean of tears if that's what she needed for her Gray-sama to open his eyes once more.
