i peer into the rearview mirror, glancing at the three children in the backseat of hayes' jeep. nash's head is leaned against the window, his eyes almost completely closed but not quite there yet. in the middle seat is hayes, who might as well be sharing a seat with autumn from how close they are. her head is supported by hayes' shoulder while his is facing his lap, where his phone screen illuminates the whole rear end of the car. his left arm is wrapped around her comfortingly, rubbing the side of her torso in up and down motions. i glance beside me at the sleeping girl in the passenger side who's hand is locked with mine. i can't believe how beautiful she is, even when she's not trying. scratch that, especially when she's not trying.

"you two are a pretty close back there," i smirk at hayes through the rearview mirror. he looks up and turns his head to see if i'm talking to anyone else but once he realizes every one else is asleep or close to it, he shrugs. i huff as he goes back to paying attention to his cellphone. i'm so bored. "what's the deal with you and her anyways?" i question, feeding into the curiosity that has been eating us all recently.

"i don't know. she's just.. mine. you know?" i raise an eyebrow at him. no, i don't know. what does that even mean? he catches on that i'm confused and continues, "like, she's not mine, but she's like everything mixed into one. a best friend, a girlfriend, an enemy from time to time, a sister, a protector. she keeps things interesting, she's just mine." it all makes sense until he brings the 'she's mine' thing back into it. i'm still not understanding how she's his. he has a girlfriend who is not her?

"she's not yours, though." i state, making sure that he understands that.

"she's not mine, but she's mine. you feel me?" my face scrunches up at the fact that he genuinely believes he's making full sense right now. i shake my head vigorously. i certainly do not feel him. he stares down at her, "i don't know.. we talked about it earlier. we're not each other's, but i'm hers and she's mine.. maybe it's just us." his face turns slightly red at the thought of her being 'his'.

"sounds like it," i chuckle, making a sudden turn to the left as soon as i hear siri state the instructions out loud.

i keep my eyes focused on the road for a little bit, and when i look back at them, autumn moans and shifts in her place, signalling that she's woken up. by this time, hayes has his hands in her hair, urging her to fall back asleep, which she does. they're both whipped.

i feel a kiss being planted upon my forehead, and i can already assume who the culprit is. i groan, snuggling further into hayes' shoulder, earning a slight chuckle from him. "c'mon, angel. we're home," i open my eyes slowly, seeing that we are in fact home. i moan, closing my eyes again. "okay, baby, but you're going to get in there one way or another," he says casually, lifting my into his arms and carrying me into the house.

he sets me down in his bed and flops right next to me. i turn over, only to be met with nash's face. i let out a small scream of startle and let out a deep breath. "wow, i knew i gained weight but i didn't think it was that noticeable," he mutters, facing the other direction. hayes and i giggle, scooting closer to each other. it's kind of weird sleeping in the same bed as both of the grier brothers, but i'm too tired to actually do something about it.

hayes sets his head on my chest while i run my fingers through his hair, relaxing him even more with every stroke. "goodnight, angel." hayes whispers sleepily. i love tired hayes. he's so affectionate toward me and is super cheesy and cute in general.

"night hayes," nash responds, a joking tone in his voice. i burst out laughing, stopping the motion of running my hands through hayes' hair.

"that wasn't even that funny. keep playing with my hair," hayes groans and takes my hand, forcing it through his hair. i chuckle, finally giving in and playing with it myself.
