A sharp chill raked Renee's spine, bringing her back to the present time. Setting her hot tea down she tightened her burgundy scarf around her neck, then she secured her sweater, making sure she buttoned the top three that flopped over her chest. Taking a deep breath, letting the bitter cold enter her lungs, she was feeling ridiculous, being an eighteen year old reminiscing about being an eighth grader. Yet she couldn't help but fall in to another memory.
Renee entered her science class, with her heart slightly pounding already. She raked her eyes across all of the desks searching for that one shaggy haired boy. Finally when she spotted him, she couldn't help the way her stomach got butterflies and did a little jump. Renee made her way to Chace, weaving between all of the desks as she went. He was talking to a girl sitting beside him. Suddenly she felt a little ridiculous going to sit next to him. He probably doesn't think anything of her, and she didn't feel like making a fool of her self.
Renee didn't realize how long she had been debating on where to sit until, the teacher Mrs. Brown said, "Renee, why don't you take a seat so we can all start." Her cheeks reddened as she made eye contact with Chase's mesmerizing green ones. His lips lifted into a slight smile as he pointed out the empty seat beside him. She clutched her black backpack and walked swiftly to the empty seat. She didn't want to be caught staring at him, so she did everything she could to look at everything else, which in return made her look more suspicious.
"Hey.", Chace said quietly. "Oh hi." Renee replied, shocked that he was talking to her. Renee returned her gaze back to the front to watch Mrs. Brown try to gain control of the rowdy class. No one in the class ever payed any attention. Some kids even took to laying around on the back counter, drawing penises on the wall in number two pencil. One time Renee had to stop a kid from putting an unused tampon in this other kids water bottle. Renee was always trying to protect the kids that couldn't protect themselves. This class was basically a joke. Everyone knew Mrs. Brown wouldn't be returning after this year, there is no way they would keep her working as a teacher at West View Middle School.
Renee looked out the corner of her eye to see Chace looking right back. Instead of looking away, Renee took the time to admire his grunged, ripped skinny jeans, plain grey shirt, and skater shoes. He kind of possessed a bad boy image but, she could tell that there was a secret he was keeping behind those eyes of his. She wanted to make it her goal to figure out what could possibly cause this beautiful boy to hold such a secret. It may sound like she is picking up on something that isn't even there but anyone could see there is more to this boy than just a new kid, trying to make it in a foreign middle school, where kids seem to be the cruelest.
