Chapter Three: Winking

Once Mr. StudMuffin let me go I ran across the street faster than road runner and met Joel at the door of the house.

"What happened? Did he touch you?", Joel questioned once we securely in the house, trailing up the stairs towards my bedroom. "Yeah, he touched me but in a good way", I assured him, "what good way?", he responded back.

"Joel, stop with the questions, we're not done with the recon", I scolded him. Joel's eyes widen wider( if possible) in a cross between surprise and horror. "You got to be kidding", he complained.

"Not ah", I shook my head, retreating back towards the window Ceil and placing the binoculars over my eyes towards Mr. StudMuffin's window. Joel sat on my bed behind me and began to take out my yaoi books, flipping through the pages. "Fine but please, no more field work in his yard", Joel said.

"Fine", I answered, "or house".

 "Damn".

Downstairs Joel and I could hear the click and slide of the front door opening.

Quickly Joel hid my books back under my bed and I placed the binoculars back on my desk just as my bedroom door slid open. "Mom and dad said get ready for church in an hour", Sarah informed us before walking down the hall towards her bedroom. Chris soon followed, flipping us off and scowling, "fags" as he passed the doorway.

"Dick", Joel spat, sitting up to stand.

Chris thought anybody who didn't like sports, cars, or anybody who'd rather read than play football was a fag, or something was extremely wrong with them.

"If he marries Sarah, I swear to God, I am going to kick his dumb, hillbilly ass", I threatened, even though I knew it was more likely he would kick mine. "I'll help you", I knew Joel would.

Joel stood up and left towards his room across the hall. Lazily, I stood up and dragged my feet towards the closet, grabbing a pair of clean dark dress pants and a white dress shirt with a black tie ( black and white were the only colors mom would allow us to wear to church, any jeans, t-shirts were not allowed either ).

After sweeping a hand through my light brown locks so they swept just above my right eye( dad didn't like long hair, he thought only gays and uncivilized people wore their hair that way), I gave myself a distasteful look in the mirror before heading downstairs to join my family and Chris.

Mom and dad sat in the front seat, Chris and Sarah in the middle and Joel and I in the back. "You think I could make a run for it", I whispered to Joel, "no, but if you do take me with you".]

 "You got it, brother".

In seconds we were backing out of the drive way and down the road while my parent and Chris and Sarah talked mindlessly about whatever judgmental things.

As the car turned towards the street I could see Mr. StudMuffin clearly in the living room window, winking at me as the car drove away.
