I wake up to someone knocking on my door, I gently sit up rubbing my eyes and looking around me, judging by how light it is outside I wasn't sleeping for that long.
"Come in!" I say softly getting up as the door slightly opens and Alex sticks his head through the door, smiling.
"Hey!" He says as he enters the room fully, closing the door behind him, his voice sounding excited like he enjoys seeing me. I push the thought out of my mind, enjoy seeing me? The last person I thought who enjoyed seeing me, other then Trey of course, was my father and now look where that got me hurt, fatherless, and independent; not to mention the laughing stock of the school. We are lucky all three of us didn't get tooken away from his stupid mistake, the "higher ups" as me and Trey call them, chose not to take us away for someone else's mistake. It's weird, really, no one see's these people who decide who gets taken and why, all you get is a letter sometimes if they considered it or if they were going too. If they consider it, people usually show up and take you, with or without consent, no one sees where they take you, but trust me everyone knows it had happened.
"So, any ideas for the essay?" He asks softly looking at me, his grey eyes open and welcoming. We both I have the same clothes on from earlier. He sits on the end of my bed and I smile wide.
"No idea, maybe we could do something that could make a task or material more efficient to do or make" I say, trying to brainstorm what to do, these things usually easy for me to do; but with him around its a lot harder and I don't know why. Maybe it's because he is one of the first true guy friends I have had in a while since no one likes a non-nuclear family. I think it's funny how people will judge you from your parents and their life's, little do they know you can be totally different from your parents. Trey bursts through the door with hillary, closing it behind them and smiling wide, a wash of excitement running over their faces.
"James!! James! We found a whole in the fence, we should go out and explore! Too see what's it's like!!" Trey says, not too loud but still excited. Hillary and Trey stare at me in anticipation, Alex looking at me and then looking at them smiling.
"I don-" Alex's eyes light up thinking about the idea of going past the fence, I never noticed how beautiful someone's eyes could be, how they could so perfectly fit along with them and their soul.
"Sure! Let's go!" I say, smiling wide as Alex gets even more excited, looking at me with a shocked, but pleasure look.
"Okay, we will get some stuff ready, meet us downstairs whenever your ready" Trey says as they open the door to leave, shutting it behind them as you can hear their footsteps go down. The stairs and throughout the house softly getting quieter the farther they get.
"This is going to be fun, I've never been out the fence. I never done anything this risky either!" He says, adrenaline running through him just at the thought. I get up out of bed, taking off my shirt, putting on a new, green short sleeved shirt on. The shirt fits my body, contouring it, Turning around and looking at Alex who quickly looks away like he was watching me the whole time, trying to hide it. I smile wide sitting next to him, the scent of his Cologne filling my nose and soon flooding my lungs in a sweet, manly smell of wonderful goodness.
"Wanna go to your house to get some things?" I ask Alex, as he looks at me, softly biting his lip and nodding, smiling and getting up. He walks to the door, opening it and both of us exiting, Alex first, me second. I walk past him with our lyrics socks on my feet and down the stairs as he follows. At the bottom of the stairs near the door I grab my shoes, starting to put them on. Now that I think if it, I never took them off before I went to bed? Maybe Trey took them off and put them down here, he always does big brotherly and fatherly stuff like that; which in fact I really appreciate.
"Hello honey! who is your friend?" I hear my mother's voice say from beside us in the hallways that leads towards the back door and bathroom. I smile and I look at her as I finish tucking my feet into my shoes.
"This is Alex grey, he is new to the community" I say as he nods at her respectfully and she smiles, giving one of those quick exhales like she was hoping for something, or one of the bored ones. As she walks away you can tell she thought he was someone who she really wanted to see, I know exactly who she thought it was. It's been really hard for her; I pray for him to come back, father, not for me or Trey but for her, for mother.
"I'll be back soon mother!!" I say as Alex and I slip out the door and onto the sidewalk heading towards the road.
"Is your father working? I thought the working times were all the same in all the communities, getting of at 3:00, it's 3:30?" he asks politely, looking down at his watch. Worry fills over me, maybe he won't be my friend anymore if he knows, maybe he will be disgusted or embarrassed to be even seen with me.
"He.. he kinda walked out on us when we were little" I say in total shock as that is not what I was really going to say at all. I was going to lie, to stretch the truth, but when it comes to him I guess I can't, I guess it's impossible.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.. that's dumb, I definitely would not walk out on anyone like you.." he says, his eyes softly fixed on the ground; not in disgust, not in embarrassment, but in regret and sorrow. Sorrow? Why sorrow? This confused me in many ways, but also made me feel listened too, understood.
"What's wrong?" I asked, us slowly walking and only halfway to his house, almost in his yard.
"Well.. I'm sorry I blatantly asked that question, and it makes me sad that someone would hurt you like that. Its not fair, especially to you" he says as I look around me, already at his front door, his hand slightly resting on it. I smile, his words making me feel cared about, needed, something that I haven't felt from anyone other then Trey and my mother for a long time. I softly hug him, not being able to help myself and then I softly back away, a smiling forming on his face.
"Thank you, and it's okay. I'm over him leaving, but alteast I got you now" I say smiling as he opens the door, a little girl, maybe three smiling and throwing her hands up. A cute pink dress covering her, fluffing out near the bottom which bounces as she runs.
"Bubby!!!" She screams in excitement as he picks her up and swings her around, her giggles filling the air
"Hey cutie!" He says to her, smiling wide and giving her kisses all over her face, pulling her to his side, holding her onto his hip. Walking into the kitchen as I follow.
"I'm home mom and dad, and this is James, he has been showing me around and Helping me get used to the community!" He says, showing me to his parents like he won a prize. His expressions and words make me really happy, really good about myself.
"Hello hunny!" His mother says, wearing a light pink blouse, smiling as I nod at her respectively which is almost like a rule in the community for respect towards someone's mother.
"Hey there" a deep, masculine voice says as a man dressed in a formal, ue, plaid shirt walks around the corner of the doorway in the kitchen. Which leads into the hallway, walking up to us as he puts his hand out.
"Hello, sir" I say as I shake his hand firmly, which is a sign of respect towards someone's father within the community. I smile wide as the total opposite feeling washes over me, a feeling of missing out. I realise that this family is perfect, that this is how a realtor family looks like. Alex sits his little sister down and kisses her fourhead.
"Come on" he says, looking at me and nodding towards the stairs as he softly jogs to them and I follow, our footsteps thud ding throughout the house as we climb the stairs and enter the room on the left. This would be Trey's room if we were still in my house, guessing that the oldest kid gets this room. We enter the room, exactly identical to my room, but with some posters on the wall. He shuts his door, taking of his shirt and jacket off as he looks for a new shirt in his wardrobe, his abs perfectly shaped into his stomach and the muscles of his back moving with alignment. My eyes are stuck on him as he puts on a shirt, he quickly turns around as my eyes dart away and he looks confused.
"Is everythingb okay? Your a little red in the face?" He says, looking at me more closely. I smile wide, nodding.
"Yeah, everything is okay hahaha!" I say, softly laughing as he grabs a knife hidden under his pillow, smirking at me.
"Protection" he says nonchalantly, smiling. How he got it into the community is beyond me, but it's here and it's pretty fascinating how there are gaps in the law in all households, all minor of course, as the major ones are taken down quickly and well.. you'll most likely never see the ones who commited them again. He smiles and we head back towards his front door to head back to my house.
