Just a little attempt at starting my writing again. For those who thought they read the story before, I have slightly edited the story and changed some aspects of it, so you might want to read through again! (27 November 2014)

Chapter 1

The doorbell rang. "Caite! Get the door!" my sister yelled from upstairs, her voice mingling with the ringing.

"Why can't you just get off your as for once?" I tutted from where sprawled on the couch.

"Im on the phone dumbass!" She yelled back.

"Yeah yeah!" I said while the doorbell rang again and I rolled my eyes.

I threw open the door, annoyed at having to get up.

"Is this the Roy residence?" a lady in a grey pantsuit asked before I could say something.

"Yes? May I help you with anything?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Okay. Do you have a guardian or someone I can speak to? ," the woman sniffed and looked down her nose at me patronisingly.

"If you don't want to speak to me then leave. " I said coldly, motioning towards the gate.

"Ok. Your parents were involved in an accident and they didn't survive." The woman told me bluntly.

"As if. Is this a prank?" I raised that eyebrow again. Who would even kid about such stuff?

"Really. They accidentally drove off a cliff, and Social Services sent me here to break the news to you." The woman said, her face filling with pity as she cocked her head to the side. She seemed experienced with breaking these kind of news, and the experience on her face was kind of automatic.

The woman started off again, but I couldn't register anything in my mind. In the end she left after handing me a stack of papers and left in a hurry, saying that she'll be contacting my relatives and will be back to check up on our situation soon. I could only think about, about anything else, except that I would never be able to see my parents ever again.

"Who was that? Why did she come?" my sister Leslie came down with her hair wrapped in a towel dripping with water. She came over to the table and flipped through the papers.

"Mom and Dad are dead." Saying out loud somehow made it final, like it actually happened.

"No shit?" Leslie asked, her jaw dropping.

"Yepp. That lady was from Social Services, said something about being sent to take care of our situation or some other."

"Oh damn. What happens now?"

"Why are you asking me? Youre supposed to go to university a year ago."

Leslie looked away sheepishly.

"I'm gonna go, um, dry my hair..." Leslie walked out of the room hurriedly.

I ran a hand down my face. Leslie didn't seem to be registiring what was happening, and she wasn't even coming up with a solution.

I flipped through a few documents from the stack that the lady had left behind, and came across my parent's will. My heart dropped the moment I saw it.

I knew that we weren't that rich, but I wasn't aware that our financial situation was that bad.

Because my parents had left everything to us, which included a massive loan, credit card bills that were long overdue, and a mortgage on the house.

I bit my lip. I had never felt so lost, so out of my depth before. This wasn't a situation that I was prepared for. It didn't cross my mind that I would ever have to deal with this kind of situation.
