Chapter 5
"Fine." I said.
The guy stared at me, a bit stunned. I guessed he wasn't expecting me to agree this easily. After I turned eighteen and got the house back, I could resell it to fund my college fees. The house prices in this area were on the rise.
"If you can prepare a document by tomorrow, we can talk terms." I proffered.
"Okay." The guy seemed pretty satisfied with my answer. Why wouldn't he be? He got his mother off his back, I had a place to live in. Everyone here was quite happy.
"Okay. Do whatever you want then. Im busy.... um.... see you tomorrow then. Don't wander too far then." He turned and walked towards the door. I cocked my head, trying to summon up the courage to ask him a question, but chickening out at every single possible moment.
I left it at there and watched him walk out. The door slammed and I stood there in silence, contemplating what to do for the rest of the day.
Then the door opened again and I stared at the dude in surprise.
"Here's an extra set of keys. Don't lose them. Remember to lock up if you go out." He said, tossing me the keys. I caught them as the door slammed in my face again.
"Good bye." I raised my eyebrow at the door. I turned around and went back to the room. I might as well just go around. We used to come here a lot when we were young, but not so much when we grew older and were all busy with stuff so we couldn't come here often. But still there were memories hidden in every corner.
I changed and got some stuff, making sure to lock the door before walking down the street. I had not been here in the last three years. The last time I was here it was summer. But it felt like the place hadn't really changed.
The nearest mall was fifteen minutes walk away, and I decided to visit it.
Which turned out to be fifteen minutes I regretted. By the time I got there I was sweating like shit, if shit could even sweat. Today had to be the hottest day in my life. There was barely anyone outside. And everyone in the mall was cursing the heat too.
It was pure bliss going into the mall and feeling the blast of the aircon.... its was like a little slice of heaven if it even existed.
I walked into the first 7-11 I saw and bought one of those huge slushies. Nothing really beats slushies on hot days that manage goddamn brain freeze on those sunny summer days despite the heat. Summer was just over, but the heat stlil hung over in midair, stifling all thoughts of movement.
I walked randomly, just enjoying the cool breeze that came at times.
"Caite! Caite! Oh my god! Caite! You're back!" Someone grabbed me from behind.
I turned around. "oh hey. Selina."
"That's all?! After 3 years apart and that's how you greet me? Why aren't you more excited? You've changed." Selina cried overenthusiastically.
"Why don't you be less excited?" I tutted. She looked at me and stuck out her lip. "Oh, do whatever I don't care."
"Fine fine. When did you come back? You have not updated me in ages," Selina said, falling into step beside me.
"I was just too busy, i guess," I said. I might as well give up on relaxing now. Selina could be too overly energetic for me at times..
"Selina!" I heard someone call from behind us. We turned around. A guy ran up to us. "Who is this?" he asked, tilting his head at me.
