I feel someone tap my shoulder as I study for my next class. I pull out one of my earbuds while turning my head to look at the perpetrator. I smile at the blonde and she looks at me with her perfect blue eyes. My best friend.
"You do know if that had been anybody else they would have been on the floor right now, right?" I say smiling at her. She laughs with that stereotypical girly giggle that wouldn't suit anybody except her.
"Erica, I know that you're really antisocial and all, but can you learn to be a little less isolated? Just because you're 17 and 4'8" does not mean you can stay away from people for the rest of your life."
"For your information, I am 5'6" and a half s-"
"Oh I am so sorry, I forgot the half of an inch. I humbly apologize," she says bowing.
"Erin, I swear I'm gonna hurt you one day. You don't always have to be a smartass."
She flips her long, curly hair and sits down next to me. I start twirling a lock of my straight dark brown hair. Just as I was about to about to play with Erin's beautifully purple highlighted hair, two boys walk up to us. I roll my eyes as Erin gets up to hug them and slowly get up myself.
"OMG Zach, Hey! Hey babe!"
"Hi Zach, hey Alex."
I just wave and smile at them, not being one for hugging. Zach comes over to hug me despite my protesting and Alex waves back. Alex is Erin's boyfriend and is really shy but we get along pretty well. Zach happens to be Erin's extremely flamboyant gay best friend. He and I don't always see eye to eye but he's nice, I guess. Problem is that he has his sights set on someone unavailable to him. I look at him and almost start laughing at the way he looks at Alex.
Zach has had a huge crush on Alex since before him and Erin got together two years ago. Erin doesn't know about it and Alex is so oblivious it hurts. Erin has been trying to break up with Alex for about a week now but she doesn't want to hurt his feelings since he's a sweet guy. I just hope Zach doesn't come to me asking for me to help set him up with Alex when it happens. I just really don't wanna deal with the drama.
I put my earbud back in seeing as I usually don't participate in their conversations anyway. Class was about to start so I wanted to appreciate the music before I would have to pretend pay attention to the teacher's incessant ranting about their life rather than the subject they were supposed to be teaching. BTS's Let Me Know came on and I started to relax a little.
Before I knew it, I was just listening to my own voice singing the song. Someone had unplugged my earphones and when I stopped singing there was a small smattering of applause. My teacher wasn't here and I knew we didn't have a test so I just left. She never took attendance anyway. She only checked if someone was here if they had missed their earlier classes or if we had a test. I decided to leave because that was my last class anyway. I leave from the back entrance and start to walk home.
