Jyn

Plans or no plans, they were going to die. There's only so many times you can live through a planet destroying super-weapon that hasn't got a great history with you. You'd think you'd be done for the first time around, but not Jyn. Or Cassian. Or K2. Or Bohdi. Or Chirrut. Or Baze. Even though the Rebels had the plans. Even though Princess Leia had turned up with a smuggler, a wookiee, two droids and a jedi farmer from Tatooine, plans in hand (or in droid). They had revealed their position and now every Rebel in and around Yavin 4 was going to die horribly. What a way to be discharged from hospital. Imagine narrowly avoiding your own demise, only to be released from hospital, still in mild pain, to the news that you have an hour at best before you become actual stardust. And not even nice stardust. Literally dust. In space. Dead dust. It was dark, but that was the truth as Jyn understood it. Just enough time to contemplate how much you would have liked to have finished that holobook or plan a nice funeral that you then realise you can't have because the only people who would go are dead and/or dying. And you're dead dust in the cold, dark vacuum of space. Beautiful imagery, right there. But that was the reality. They may as well finish as they started. Jyn turned her back on the pilots whose short, happy lives were about to be cut shorter, and walked into the base. Weary generals crisscrossed along the corridors in search of that data chip they needed or the rogue helmet someone had misplaced. Amongst them, Cassian Andor caught Jyn's eye and smiled grimly. He walked gingerly over her, not eager to damaged new wounds even more. "I guess we should die how we planned." she smiled.
"Fancy a walk?" he suggested. She wrapped her arm around his shoulders. They limped out of the crowded corridors and into the dying sunset. They could see the small, grey orb hovering, slightly tucked behind the main planet of Yavin. Funny, how pretty it looked. Wind whipping their hair from the force of the x-wings taking off, they found K2 gazing up at the Death Star. "Ready to die, Jyn Erso?" he asked. It almost sounded like a joke. It probably wasn't, knowing K2's dark humour.
"As ready as ever." she gave a hollow laugh. Bohdi came out of the control room and sighed, rolling his eyes at the sky. "They can't resist a dramatic destruction of all hope, can they? I bet they deliberately slowed down to make sure we got good mental scarring. More chance for us, though." He waved to a pilot climbing into his ship and they gave him thumbs up. He'd become something of a minor celebrity amongst the troops.
Baze and Chirrut wandered out of the temple, arm in arm. Chirrut's head snapped towards one particular x-wing, just leaving the atmosphere. "The Force is strong. We will do well. Not all is lost."
"Our cannons are stronger." Baze pointed out.
"Rubbish. The Force is stronger."
"Cannons."
"Force."
"Cannons."
"Force."
"Cannons!"
"Force!"
"Oh my gosh." Cassian pointed at they sky, lit up with blasyer bolts, TIE fighters and x-wings. "One got through." Jyn followed his eyes and saw a particular amount of fire concentrated in the trench around the middle.
"There's now a 46% chance... Of success..." K2 looked astounded and almost disappointed that anything Jyn could have made possible could have a probability of sucess higher than 2%. A larger ship appeared out of hyperspace right into the battle. For a moment, chaos reigned and then... Boom. The Death Star was gone. Chirrut laughed. Baze raised a fist in the air. K2 jumped violently. Jyn jumped with shock. Bohdi just cried "Galen Erso... was a genius... GENIUS!". Cassian just looked shellshocked. Then all five humans burst into tears and not one of them was ashamed. As the solitary surviving x-wings came into land, Generals, Commanders and most of the Yavin 4 base control team poured out into the base to welcome the young Jedi, the wookiee and the smuggler home. The princess threw her arms around them and smiled wider than anyone had seen in a long time. Jyn and Cassian looked at each other, caught up in the happiness and time slowed. Bohdi's praise of her father became an echo, Chirrut and Bazes continued Force/Cannon debate became background noise and the cheers of the crowds became a blur of colour and shouting. They kissed. Bohdis shouts came up a notch. "I SAID, DIDN'T I?!" K2s mutters of "Well, it was about time." and the general shouts of the surrounding officers (who had been secretly shipping them this whole time, because, I mean, come on) became more pronounced.

Luke

"Hold up," Leia tugged at his arm, "There's people you need to meet." She negotiated her way through the crowd, Han and Luke in tow. She stopped at a group of ordinary rebels. A man with wild dark hair holding a huge machine gun, a man with a long stick wearing black robes lined with bright red, a shorter rebel in an imperial flight suit with a pair of polished goggles on his head, an imperial droid and a man and woman hugging each other. All had tear streaked faces and looked happy in a sad sort of way. "This is Rogue One. They risked their lives for the plans. Jyn's father built a flaw in the Death Star. That's how we destroyed it," The Jyn grinned at Luke. She was pretty in a way that said 'make one wrong move and I'll put a blaster bolt between your eyes'.
"Cassian gathered most of the crew," Cassian smiled awkwardly, arm around Jyn. "Chirrut managed to get the line open to transmit the plans," Chirrut looked serenely at Luke, not quite into his eyes.
"Baze prepared weapons," Baze nodded at Luke.
"K2 found the plans," K2 waved in their general direction.
"and it's Bohdi's fault we're here in the first place. Without his information, we'd have been toast, long ago." Bohdi smiled and waved.
"But now we're public enemy number one." Jyn put in. "Guess the Empire didn't appreciate their new toy being damaged so early on. Or the death of over 2 million soldiers."
"For that, Commander Erso, you are now an official member of the Rebellion." Jyn gaped as Leia laughed. "As for you, General Andor, I hope you lead my spies well." Cassians eyes widened. "Bohdi, our new mechanic, will soon fix up R2." Bohdi looked delighted. "Chirrut, you and Baze, the new weapons expert, are welcome any time. Put in a good word for us with the Force?" Chirrut bowed happily. "The Force?" Luke asked.
"I can see it with you, Luke. You have far to go. It won't be easy, you'll be sorely tempted. It'll be worth it." Amidst the intrigue, Luke realised he'd never told Chirrut his name. "However," Leia continued, "You all disobeyed orders and scared the Force out of Mon Mothma, so you can all enjoy your ranks while cleaning out the store rooms."
