Stara and Calliope were in their first class of the day, Charms.
"Callie! This is so fascinating." Stara whispered to Calliope, obviously captivated. The professor, Professor Macmillan, was talking about everything they would be learning that year.
"I know!" Callie whispered back excitedly.
"Miss Davis, is there anything you would like to share with the class?" Professor Macmillan asked.
"No Professor," Callie answered, very embarrassed that she had been caught talking in the first lesson, of the first day of school. And it was only about how interesting the year was going to be. Well, now she knew Professor Macmillan has a sharp eye. Or would it just be good hearing?
"Good, then. Can I continue with my class?" asked Professor Ernie Macmillan, a Hufflepuff.
"Yes Professor," Calliope was trying to get the staring eyes of her fellow classmates off her.
After class, right as Callie had swung her bag over her shoulder and was ready to leave with Stara to their next class, the boy that had knocked her into the lake came over. Callie immediately put up her defenses.
"Hi, Calliope."
"Don't call me Calliope." Callie dead-panned.
"Why?" Zeke responded defiantly.
"Because I don't like it. Call me Callie or Davis." Calliope said through gritted teeth.
"Whatever you say, Calliope."
"Did you just come over here to start a fight with Callie?" questioned Stara.
"No, actually," Zeke replied, sounding honest.
"Then what did you come over here for?" Callie asked, her voice laced with annoyance.
"To complement Stara's eyebrows," Zeke said this as if people complemented one's eyebrows and much as they complemented one's shirt. "They are very nice."
"Oh, uh. Thank you? I guess." Stara answered, quite unsure and confused as to what to do with the situation.
"Your welcome." And with that final note, Zeke Kerwin promptly turned around and left. "Bye Calliope."
Calliope turned to Stara "What the heck?"
"I have no idea." Supplied Stara.
"Your eyebrows are nice, though." Callie was now looking a Stara's eyebrows. Well, she had been wondering why her nemesis had come over to complement that little detail.
"We got to get to class," Stara said, making a face.
"Yeah, right class. What do we have anyway?"
So, after the first day of classes were done, Calliope and Stara were noticeably pumped. They were in the Gryffindor common room, talking about how amazing the next 7 years were to be. How they were going to rule the school.
"So, Stara. I heard from some other people about this thing called Quidditch. I'm like 95% sure that's the sport that wizards and witches play, but if it's not, and it's the other 5%, then I'm extremely confused."
"Yeah, people must think you're mental. They talk about the thing like Americans talk about American Football." Stara replied. "But, I think we'te learning about it tomorrow in our first flying practice."
"Really? Oh, cool!" Callie was definitely excited to learn all about Quidditch. Then her expression turned serious. "Stara, I, uh, I need to tell you something."
"What is it?" Stara asked concerned.
"Well, I think if we are going to be friends that you need to know about my parents." Callie paused, but Stara kept silent, waiting for Callie to continue. "They don't really like magic. They are muggles, as you know, and, uh, they didn't want me to come to Hogwarts. We had many arguments about it and they agree to let me come, but on several conditions." Callie took a deep breath and continued. "One of those conditions to be the top of the class. So, uh, I'm going to be spending a lot of time studying and that kind of stuff." Callie finished.
"Oh, really." That was all Stara could think of saying.
"Sorry I made this awkward." Callie apologized.
"Don't be sorry. Also, I'm one of those weird people who actually like school, like a lot. Back home, I was referred to by my peers as 'The Nerd Freak'. Nerd, because, well, I think that explains its self, and Freak because look where we are now. I didn't have friends back home, so I stuck to reading and studying." Stara paused. "Turns out when all you do is read and study, you find yourself liking it. So, what I'm trying to say is that I like studying and I would be more than happy to help you study or anything like that."
Callie was the happiest person alive, and that was certainly evident as she had a huge smile plastered on her face. "Really?"
"Yes."
"Oh, your the best!" Callie ran up to Stara and hugged she until she couldn't breathe.
"I know.
So, the two girls started to study their Transfiguration book. They were finished reading it by the hour. And finished mastering the first 2 spells by the next hour. The time passed quickly because Stara and Callie were messing around and having fun, too.
The next day they learned about Quidditch, and studied the Transfiguration book a bit more, mastering three more spells. Over the next month, they continued this pattern of going to classes, studying the Transfiguration textbook, mastering spells, having fun, and occasionally running into Zeke Kerwin. Calliope also decided that she would try out for Keeper next year. She was not ready yet, as a first year, and she had found out that their current Keeper was in their seventh year and would not be there next year. What luck?
