Moon phases

Shane's POV

The moon is covered by a thin shielding of fog, you can't see a star in the sky through it, yet it's not cold. I dig my hands deeper in my pocket, walking at a slow pace. I take in my surroundings and enjoy the fresh air. The concept of time doesn't seem to enter my head at this point, it's nice just to be alone, just me and my thoughts. The house looms ever nearer and by now I am starting to flag with exhaustion. I fumble with the door handle and swing the door open. "Drew are you in?" I shout as I walk in.
"Conservatory." He replies in a cheery voice. I go through to him and sit in the arm chair next to the sofa. "Enjoy your walk?" He asks, standing at the window looking out at Hendrix playing in the dark.
"It was really nice actually. Come on stand outside with me." I grab his hand and walk out the conservatory doors.
"Why?" He questions, giggling like it was the first time we got together. I push him down on the grass, still being careful and sit down beside him.
"Look up." I lift his chin slightly. "You see how the moon is being blocked by the fog?" I point out. Drew cocks his head still looking up.
"Yeah I do." He has an air of confusion in his voice.
"That's how I feel without you: as if I can't use my full potential." I say, looking at him with a smile painted on my face.
"Shane that is the soppiest but the cutest thing you could have said to me." He rests his head on my shoulder.

We sit on the grass, looking at the sky and talking about the stars until Hendrix starts pining at the door. "Come on Shane, let's go inside where it's warm." He rubs my arm affectionately. I haul myself up of the floor and follow my lover and my four legged friend inside. Hendrix turns into the kitchen and goes to his bed. Drew goes to the living room and sits on the sofa, creating a space in between his legs for me to sit. "Put your legs on me, it's warm." I say as I nestle into his figure. His hands rake through my hair, not really paying attention to much.  I sit wrapped around him, rubbing his leg affectionately. Drew kisses the top of my head lightly and snaking his arm down my shoulder and onto my chest. "You're being unusually accepting of my affections today Shane. What's that walk done to that head of yours?" He pats my head playfully.
"Nothing. I'm just in a good mood in general." I smile up at him.  Drew's eyes have a familiar twinkle about it, like many years ago. Thinking about it, the twinkle never left, never died.
"Shane, your staring at me. Are you okay?" I snap out of thoughts.
"Sorry babe I was just thinking." I cuddle into him and listen to his heartbeat. The steady rhythm of his heart comforts me and his touch sends my body into a euphoric trance and it's at this time where I realize his arms are my home.

Time passes us by and we grow more weary and my eyes sting with fatigue. "Are you coming to bed?" I ask Drew but I don't get a reply. "Drew?" I say again. He snorts loudly as he wakes up, I stroke the side of his face. "Come on you, bed now." I say in a hushed voice. He groans and puts his head  back down on the arm of the chair. "Do you need me to carry you?" I ask. He covers his eyes, groaning once again. I slide my arms underneath him, bracing myself to take the dead-weight. He wraps his arms around me sleepily and lets me lift him.  I carry him into the room and place him on the bed with care. I pull my arms from underneath him and walk across to my side of the bed. As I pull the covers over us Drew weaves legs into mine and cuddles into my chest, making a little whimpering noise as he falls asleep. I hold him close to me as I try to fall asleep myself. I catch a quick glimpse of the moon through the gap in the curtain and I think to myself: My love for Drew  is like the moon: it goes through many phases but it is always there and it will never go away.
