So while I draft out the next chapter of The Broken Ones, I found this cute prompt on Pinterest and thought, hey, why the heck not, but I thought it was cute and funny, so why not. The prompt is this: "Howdy new neighbor. I know you probably don't know my name but you smiled at me the other day and you seem pretty nice so can you please help me and kill the giant spider in my kitchen. I will gift you with food."
When he opened the door of his apartment, he looked incredibly baffled. I folded my hands behind my back and peered up at him. His eyes narrowed.
"Can I help you?" his voice was groggy, which explained the messy hair. I had woken him up.
"Hi, there! I know you don't know my name, but I lived next door and you smiled at me the other day and I thought, well, he looked nice and so could you maybe come kill this giant spider in my kitchen?" I rambled.
"You banged on my door at seven in the morning to ask me to kill a spider?" he asked. I nodded meekly.
"Yes, I woke up and I wanted some coffee, on the floor of my kitchen is this huge spider and I don't know if it's venomous or not and it's really big. So can you come kill it for me and then I swear I will let you go back to sleep." I told him.
"What's your name again? And are you the neighbor who is banging on the wall the whole time or the one who just moved in?" the man rubbed his eyes, trying to wake himself up.
"Isabelle. And yeah, I just moved in." I replied. And yours?"
"Henry. So if I kill this spider for you, you'll give me food."
"I'm a chef, so I can make you breakfast." I offered Henry. He seemed nice and not some random homicidal maniac. "Pretty please?"
" I guess." he grabbed a key from next to him and stepped out of his apartment. I turned and walked to mine, opening the door and letting him in.
"I put a cup on top of it so it wouldn't move, but I don't know if it was strong enough to actually move the cup." I informed him as we walked to the kitchen.
On the tile floor sat a simply to-go coffee cup. I had squealed and tossed the cup onto the arachnid and fled. Henry looked at the cup and started chuckling as he walked to the cup.
"This is gonna be one of those, holy crap!" he yelled as he took off the cup. The spider was pretty large in size. I jumped up onto a chair by the island.
"I told you it was big! Kill it, please!" I urged him.
"With what? My sandal?" he asked. I shot him a look and he sighed before taking off the shoe he was wearing and smacking it down on the bug.
"Now kindly clean up the mess." I handed him a wad of paper towels to clean up what was left of the spider. He took them and wiped up the spider before tossing it in the trash can.
"Happy now?" he grumbled and looked over at me.
"Thank you!" I beamed. "Now how about some breakfast?"
