The cacophony that was the cafeteria was comforting to Finn. He liked it seeing as it blocked all thoughts from entering his head as he walked through the line, and took his normal place sitting alone. Looking around, he noticed the obvious reason there was so much noise. The clatter of trays being dropped on tables, the chatter of students complaining about homework and discussing after school plans, all adding up to a noise so loud Finn couldn't think. And he was glad for it, glad for the distraction.
Millie sat talking to her friends. Her table was always packed; usually, they were trying to cram as many people as they could at once to try to get all of their friends in. She'd always enjoyed lunch. While it was true that the food wasn't the best, and that was putting it lightly, it was made up for by the company of friends and the sounds of chatter and laughter. She'd always felt comfortable with people, a natural extrovert, so it was only natural that she would sit at one of the largest tables. At a lull in the current conversation about which teacher was worse, Mrs. Wentz or Mr. Balinsky, Millie took a look around the cafeteria. She noticed the faded paint on the walls, a small mural of the school's logo, the fighting Spartans, and the hordes of students. Yet one individual stood out to her. It was a kid in her grade, his name was escaping her at the moment. 'Something having to do with a fish' she thought. Gill? No that didn't sound right. Fin? 'No, wait!' She thought, 'His name's Finn.'
He'd been at the school for a few years now, arriving a few years after her. He seemed alright, but he just wasn't very outgoing, preferring to sit and stare at a wall trapped in his own thoughts rather than talking to anyone. She'd wondered why no one sat by him, he didn't seem like a bad person, in fact, he seemed nice. Maybe she could sit with him, she was sure her table would do fine without her. As she began to stand up she was quickly seated at the frightening 'RING!' of the bell. "Damn Mills, are you alright?" Her friend Gaten asked. Breathing slowly to try to regain control of her breath Millie looked up at him. "Yeah I'm good, "she said, her proper British accent brought up an octave in a timid squeak.
Halfway through her next class, Millie was thoroughly bored. She'd finished the test easily and in a short amount of time. However, she couldn't say the same about her friends who, by the looks of it, had only reached the halfway point. Deciding she wanted to stretch her legs, she excused herself to go to the bathroom, when in reality she planned to take a short walk through the halls. Turning the corner she heard the sound of a slam of lockers. In front of her lay the scene of Troy, presumably the president of the right proper pricks club, standing over Noah, another kid from her grade. She deduced the sound must have been Troy throwing Noah into the lockers. Not wanting to be seen she quickly hid around the corner, peeking out just enough to see the scene unfold. Troy berated Noah with words she couldn't make out as Noah whimpered at every punch. Troy got in three more punches before someone walked out of the boy's bathroom, right behind Troy. The figure, deciding to take immediate action, punched Troy square in the back, knocking the breath out of him. Troy quickly turned around only for his vision to be engulfed by a fist. One punch was all it took for the bully to go down. The owner of the fist, Millie realized, was Finn. Looking down at Troy, then his fist, and finally glancing at Noah, a shocked look came across Finn's face. "Th-th-thank you." Noah sputtered out. Finn only nodded in response, his face still reflecting his bewilderment of the situation. He quickly started walking away, right towards Millie. Pulling herself away from the wall, Millie tried to act as if she'd just walked around the corner. Seeing her, Finn stopped in his tracks and looked at her. Millie tried to give a casual smile and wave as she stopped. Finn simply ran around the corner in response. 'What is the deal with him?' Millie wondered. It was then that her mind made an unconscious decision, to find out more about Finn.
A/N: Hope you like it! I have writer's block for my other stories so thought I'd get this one out. I have some ideas for this so if you'd like to see more go ahead and say so. Might just continue it anyways though. Have a good one! :D
