The whole next week had passed in some kind of peculiar mode. I tried to avoid to look at Alex not to provoke the sensation that stayed with me after the night of his short sickness. Also, it took me some time to recover mentally from my mountain flight. Even though I’ve accepted things as they were, it still was difficult to digest and come to terms with my bizarre dreams.

Roberta went back home to Vermont. I wanted to come and stay with her till her departure to India, but she insisted that it wasn’t necessary. Her flight was scheduled on Saturday morning and she talked me out of journey saying that there was no sense for me in coming over only for a day. I assumed that she was just concerned about the money on the tickets I would have to spend. It wasn’t that big of a reason, but I listened and stayed in New York.

My canceled trip home was on time. Marsha, the woman I used to work with called me and invited for a Friday evening get together. Truly speaking, I was beyond delighted. For the past couple of weeks I’ve been craving some good company, and Marsha was a very suitable company. Besides, I didn’t expect to hear from her ever again.  And of course, her invitation gave me an opportunity to have one evening away from the apartment. I knew, I needed to taste some normal friendly atmosphere and clear my head a bit.

We appointed at seven o’clock in one of a lounge type restaurants in the Meatpacking district. I was ready to hit the road in half an hour before the meeting. But before to leave, I wrote a none expositive note for Alexandre, saying that I went out and would be late. I didn’t want him going crazy like last time when I ran away abruptly to visit my sister. I placed the note on the kitchen counter, then closed the front door and called for the elevator. The cage reached my floor and when the doors slid open, I’ve met three pair of eyes that began studying me, one in confusion for sure. Alexandre froze staring at me, next to him stood Victor and Nick...

“Where are you going?” Alex greeted me without even hi or how are you.

“Out,” I pronounced with clear obviousness where I headed.

     “With whom?”

“A friend from work,” I retorted as sharply as him

     “Where?”

“I don’t know, near by the restaurant where we went out last time.”

     “I see.”

Finally the three of them gave me a way in and I exchange places with the trio. When I was out of their sight, I rolled my eyes and shook my head in disbelieve - For how long would this bizarreness continue? - There should be some limit...a logical finale?

I was so annoyed that haven’t been watching the streets properly. In fact, I was so pissed that it took me by surprise when I found myself at the spot. My legs just brought me to the doorsteps of the restaurant.

Marsha was on time. Smiling she welcomed me and immediately started to apologize for the girls who couldn’t make it.

“Actually, I’m happy that we are together,” she pulled me to the bar. “We can talk calmly. The girls are so loud.”

“It’s fine,” I smiled, “either way.”

“Do you want to go to the rooftop?” She offered. “It’s not yet crowded there.”

“Whatever you want. I’m just glad to get out and have some fun.”

“Positive attitude! Like it...like it...like it,” she approved.

We rotated and strolled out of the restaurant going across the street to the hotel.

The rooftop bar wasn’t crowded. We took soft seats and when waitress brought our drinks, we began chirping about work and those small life details without getting in too much deep descriptions. It was peasant to be around Marsha, she could be chatty without losing the seriousness, even the second drink haven’t inclined her balanced nature.
